Gigabyte Pc upgrade... or other

They are sort of still in the lead ... with the GTX280 ... but the current pricing on those is somewhere around the 8k mark which is rediculous, considering the 4870 (at 3449) does extremely well against it, and in some games like call of duty, does better.

Asus Rampage Formula X48 = 3100
INTEL Core2 Quad Q9300-2.5Ghz CPU -6MB Cache = 2800
Coolermaster Real Power Pro M850Watt PSU = R2050
If I'm not mistaken, the centurion is the CM590 ... price = R670
Price on CM690 = R735
Total = 15583 / 13183 (prices based on CM690 case)

No worries ... well if you decide to go for the radeon 4850's ... I get 5 in tomorrow, of which 2 are sold, and there are still a few at my supplier ... and 4870's ... we should get some more next week, as they are all sold out for the delivery tomorrow ... even supplier is sold out.

btw... can you run SLI - both these cards in windows xp or do you need windows vista for sli support?
 
You can run Crossfire ... AMD's SLI equivalent ... but you need to have a motherboard with the Intel Chipsets ... the nVidia chipsets i.e. 780i / 790i, etc won't work.

what motherboard would you recommend for SLI?
 
I'm confused ... didn't you say you were taking two HD4850's ... maybe I misread :p
For SLI ... XFX boards are nice, for Crossfire, Asus Rampage Formula is nice.

i know.. i was looking at the xfx 790i bord but since you said it doesn't support SLi mode effectively as i understand i got confused to.. he

what the heck is crossfire for?
 
Ok, let me explain :p ... SLI means you run 2 or more nVidia cards, Crossfire means you run 2 or more AMD Cards (AMD took over ATI).
Now a board that supports SLI cannot run Crossfire, and Vise Versa ... so the XFX 790i will run nVidia cards in SLI, but not AMD Cards in Crossfire (It will however run a single AMD card),
The Asus Rampage Formula is based on the Intel X48 chipset, which will run AMD Cards in Crossfire, but not nVidia cards in SLI (But it will run a single nVidia card) ... hope this makes sense :p
