what is your feelings on the brand - good quality good price - or do you think they are two pricey for SA market

I have seen some good products from them in the past but now i see alot of other brands on the market that are better priced.

Just want to know what you guys think as i am upgrading my PC soon

No stay away from Gigabyte. MSI FTW!!!! I've been using MSI for 4 years now and since then had no problems with it. They are greatley priced and have great performance. call me if u want to upgrate. I may be able to help.

Gigabyte, got one currently, much cheaper, more feature and seems better components used than same range Asus. I am talking about G31MX-S2(R626 incl VAT) and P5KPL-VM (R +800)。

I have Gigabyte as well. Pretty happy with it and they have a 3 year warranty. They also have solid capacitors, not sure which other brands do.

DONT TOUCH MSI - had a problem with every MSI board I have bought and so has Sahara I think :P (they no longer stock them).

Asus / Gbyte are the best imo.

I have a G31 now and looking to upgrade to the X48 Gigabyte motherboard with the 2Gig RAM modules [Transcend] that Rectron is bringing in soon. Don't know what CPU to take though it's a toss up between Q6600 and E8400 i think the 8400 has 6mb cache if I am not mistaken

Gigabyte mobo's are exceptional quality boards IMHO. This is my 6th board in 5 years, without a single problem. Their GFX cards are way overpriced though, and I never owned one so can't really say much about quality.

gigabyte mobo's are best there is

nothing beats a gigabyte motherboard

msi is just rubbish

the quality is amazing from gigabyte and their pricing is awesome as well

vga cards are over priced, never owned one either

i have only ever owned gigabyte and only ever put gigabyte pc's together where i can

I agree with Asus. Just is the best. Price? well who cares. You get what you pay for.

Definitely Gigabyte - I've always used them and only had 1 die in 15 years of different models - and got that one replaced free 'cos still under warranty...

A+ in my books...

Aren't gigabyte and asus owned by the same holding co. I though I heard something like that.

MSI's top of the line motherboards is great. Performance wise they match and even beat their ASUS and Gigabyte counter parts. ASUS is a bit over priced but you can't go wrong with one of these three brands. Gigabytes P35 range were top notch.

You're all getting it right some places and missing it in other places :P
Here's thje skinny on it.

Allot has changed in direction for motherboard manufacturers. Since the Core2 took over from the Athlon64's as the platform to have, Asus has been ruling with an iron Fist. P5WDH, P5WD-WS, etc... These were the boards to have... From there Asus just kept bringing it. Striker Extreme, P5N32-E SLI etc... yes the 680i chipset had issues but if you were going to go 680i then Asus was the board to get par none (we didn't get EVGA and XFX at the time)

Enter 965 chipset, Gigabyte started to come right (new CEO who was an engineer first) dropping the DPS module and started focusing on solid overclocking friendly motherboards and leaving the oem sector. Enter solid capacitors, first ROHS compliant motherboards, ferrite chokes, etc...

At the same time Asus was still bringing it strong and today as it stands Asus holds top rankings across ORB (Futuremark result database) and HWBOT. Gigabyte is starting to trickle through as they are making beautiful progress on the R&D side of things and interacting with the high end enthusiast\gamer users...

Meanwhile MSI has seen a downfall for the most part, their last stellar board was the MSI K8N Platinum 939 NForce3 250 based boards. Those ruled but had their own issues. After that they started to go downhill, same goes for Abit. Who were champions with the AW9D-MAX and before with the NF7-S but of late they have been even eclipsed by Foxconn who have two (and a coming 3rd) scorching motherboards in the form of the AM2 C51XEM2AA and the Foxconn Mars. Which is probably amongst the three best P35 based boards I've ever used.

As for who is best, it changes board by board. Asus has such a rich product catalog not even GB can match it in that regard, however GB is slowly catching up and one can't say get an Asus or Gigabyte of the same price point and chipset without really going into the details which you are unlikely to care about.

Right now best X38 board in the country (FSB, performance and cooling wise) is the GB X38-DQ6, followed by the Asus Maximus Formula, (their same level actually)

If you looking to buy between the two either will do, if the Asus us cheaper get that, if its not get the GB .

The lower end Gigabyte Intel boards are boring, most with two RAM slots and craby on-board VGA - The lower AMD range is much better, and give a good bang for buck for a board based home PC

not really man

the performance difference between a low end and intel cpu is quite alot so i would still go with intel

I cant buy Gigabyte boards since i dont want anything to do with Rectron (or rather, they dont want anything to do with me, I dont buy enough for their liking)

Im happy with Asus and Biostar (though I'm sick of the Biostar wholesaler in Midrand).

MSI is crap. The government department I work in has endless problems with the PCs with the MSI boards...
