Hi Guys,

Anyone bought and installed this motherboard in the last two weeks or so? I already had to return one and my replacement is giving me the exact same issue.

What is happening is that the computer either doesn't boot up or when it does I get to a purple color screen which should be the BIOS setup screen. I have been testing with two power supplies already which I know works. A 550w one and a 1000w modular corsair one. But still no joy. Has anyone experienced the same issue? And if so did you manage to solve it?

If only I could get the BIOS, then maybe I could update it. :(

I bought the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H a couple of months ago, the only problem I had was my memory which I thought it could of been the RAM slots on the board but after testing and RMA it was the actual RAM that was faulty.
Maybe you just got unlucky and received two faulty boards :wtf:

@MaximusZA tx

@Ampha bummer, I have 4 x 4gb Trancend Jetram (ddr3-1333), and I tried the sticks individually but no luck. I cant believe that all 4 sticks could be bad... Meh, maybe I should take my whole case to rectron and see if they can diagnose it. I also considering getting the same power supply you have and see if that would work.

will do some more checking tonight and see if I get anywhere...

And the processor? Have you tried that in a working motherboard?
Maybe the trip to Rectron is the right route to take. They are usually very helpful.

What chip u running with it? A Sandy or a Ivy?

Thats the one thing with building it yourself, you dont always have spare parts to test with :) I am hoping to go to rectron on friday and see if we can get it sorted.

@PsyWulf its ivy bridge (CORE I7 3770), sandy bridge wont fit in that slot. *ps. you probably know that, but you probably making sure I know ;) weird things have happened before ;)

Tell that to my favourite 2500k Sandy ( Board specified is a 1155 )

Though back on topic,it's supposed to be Ivy Bridge compatible but i'd stick a Sandy in and see if it starts and flash bios update

@Nefertiti & PsyWulf:
The Z77 board can take both Sandy & Ivy Bridge CPU's.

The Z77 chipset is supposed to handle Sandy & Ivy Bridge CPU's from the start.

It is only the older (Sandy Bridge) x6x (eg. Z68, H61, P67, H67) chipsets that would require a BIOS update before it supports the Ivy Bridge CPU's!

Motherboard site lists flashes for improved CPU compatibility so there is no hurt in trying is there?

aaahhh you guys are correct... sorry about that... I skipped the sandy bridge iteration and mistook it for lga1156 instead of lga1155

dont have a sandy bridge version handy though... but hopefully on friday it can all be sorted. I'll report back.

From what I heard the board initially had issues with only SB CPU's so your CPU will be fine in the board

I have a i5 3570K in that board and have had no issues with it

Ok after installing it yesterday and testing all day and last night, i am very happy with this MB. I do have an ivybridge i5 3570k processor though so maybe thats there the issue is?

@ MaximusZA
What you guys can also try is check the BIOS versions that are on the motherboard and compare it with each other, it should say on the side of the motherboard box on that sticker what BIOS version it ships with.

Hi Guys,

Feedback. I am up and running YAY!! I took it too Rectron and they updated the bios for me and it was working. However when I got home, I had the same issue. It turned out that I plugged in an old crt monitor in and support for it seems non existent, but when I plugged in my new shiny monitor it worked like a charm. So maybe it was the crt monitor all along!? Rectron did check the other one though and found it was faulty. So this must have been just a series of unfortunate events. :D

I love my SSD, first time working with one and boy is it fast. Lets see how it goes once I install everything I need ;)

Check your monitor cable for shorts, missing pins.
What is connection of new monitor, VGA?
Let us know your finding, interesting whether it is fault or a feature.

The crt monitor does work when I go through to the operating system, but it doesnt show the bios screen (just a purplish hue). The only thing I can think off is that the crt monitor defaults to 640px by ? which is not sufficient space for the bios screen. I've installed the motherboard drivers, so maybe it will be fixed now but I dont know when I will have a chance to check that theory out. I was using vga straight most of the times (both the crt and led monitor), but I have tried vga to dvi conversion which also had the same issue. So I dont think its the connectors itself.

The UEFI BIOS won't scale down lower than 800 x 600, thats probably why.

So, it is a feature. Luckily there is no many monitors around not capable SVGA resolution.
