Gillette Mach 3 Blades

How long does the disposables last for you? I haven't tried those, but the Mach 3 I change every 6-8 weeks. Under 80c a day at 16/R500.

Wow - 6-8 weeks - and this with every day use?

I did have Mach 3 (and fusion power glade or something like that) at one stage. I don't think any razor blade has lasted me for more than 3 weeks. Good disposable lasts for about 2 weeks so..

I buy the 6 pack Gillete III disposables for R100 on special at PnP regularly...why would you spend R500 for 16?!!!!
I went electric + disposable a long time ago. Only shave cheeks and neck though, the rest is trimming and shaping.

Well to be honest i've got a growth second to none...rough as sh8t and bain of my daily existence...that has taken flesh off 1 or 2 of the delicate petulas and face of ex's (well not quite but left them with red and sensitivity patches :) and had them wince in pain a couple of times when things got a bit rough if you know what i mean )...
so don't use me as a yardstick by any accounts!

That said, seeing as I work from home and don't bother to shave daily like I used to...say 3 times a week...1 blade lasts me about 5-6 shaves before it needs replacing...2 -3 weeks max?

I also get about 8 weeks on 1 mach3 blade.

Good blade care like drying the blades immediately after use help preserve the cutting edges.

I also get about 6-8 weeks from a blade, but there’s nothing to compare with a new blade. My late farther bought me a set which was called a Rolls Razor, a beautiful hollow ground blade which you stripped in the box via a sort of slide mechanism. Gave a wonderful shave but had one serious flaw. The blade guard had to be able to move away from the blade when stropping and had a large gap. If you nicked yourself it was at least a week before you could go near that area again. Apologies, got carried away. Off to Makro tomorrow for the 16 pack.

yes there degradation but it's not an issue for me.

I used to electric shave with a Philips 3 head lift an cut back in the 80's. first electric razor that shaved as close as a razor blade.

battery died years later. tried another "newer" Philips but it was trash. went back to wet shaving.

Bought the 16 pack at Makro yesterday. I make a note in outlook calendar when I change blades. Turns out the last blade was started 1 October 2018 so 2 months use. Decided to treat myself today and started new blade. Seems my purchase should last me a few years. If I’m still around, I wonder what the price will be in 2020.
