As much as I dislike Telkom, it does seem that they are trying to better their customer service.

I live in Cape Town, and with the recent rains we had, my adsl line developed an ugly line noise. So much so that in the end, the dsl sync would drop more than 30 times a day.

So, last Friday afternoon i took a deep breath and decided to call Telkom. This always brings painful visions of the phone fusing to my ear, due to the long time on the phone, talking to someone that is trying to convince me that it is aliens sabotaging my life.

This was around 16h00, service was good (person knew what she was talking about), and i was told that a tech would have to come out. Me having dealt with Telkom before, made a alarm note on my phone for Monday morning, to phone again. Maybe this way i would get some response within a week or so.

Lo and behold, Saturday afternoon 14h30 there is a knock at my door, and it is the Telkom Tech. Fixed my line and was gone in 30 mins, everything working perfect.

So comes Monday morning, i am happily sitting in front of my PC, reading an article on "mybroadband" when the line just dies, WTF i think to myself, seeing that the sync light on the modem is dead. I pick up the phone to hear if i can get dial tone, no dial tone, i feel the blood rushing to my head and look over at the 21 year old bottle of whiskey that i have been waiting to open, will today be that day i think.

I pick the handset up again just to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, still dead, and then i hear a mans voice, "hello sir, this is telkom, we are fixing the fault that you reported". I explained to the guy that it was already fixed, he stopped by the house, asked me again if everything was working 100% (which it was now), made me sign a paper, and off he went.

Dsl has not been down since, but about 5 people have phoned to confirm that the problem has been resolved (little bit annoying, but in a good way).

If this isn't trying to better service, i dont know what is.

Not really good news, Telkom techs always work over the weekend - Time and a half you see!

Not really true, a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, i used to work for Telkom, and nobody really wants to work after hours, SARS takes most of the extra money anyway.
