Glasses Advice Needed

Over-the-counter glasses cannot correct astigmatism. Your prescription must include CYL (cylinder) and Axis values to correct the specific irregular shape of your eye
I think the optometrist was trying to avoid this so I don't need to rely on the glasses permanently as he said there was only a slight difference in the one eye. He did a test where he changed the shape of one of the lenses (not sure what to call it) and when he took it away I was completely dizzy and disorientated. So looks like I might have to consider this if things don't improve a bit.

It is on my left ear. It is on my right ear. It is on my nose. I'm not really sure where else to put them.

Hard to say without knowing what the diagnosis was for exactly.

If it’s astigmatism it can only be worn one way, you can’t have it on the end of your nose or loosely floating around, it needs to be in exact alignment.

But it sounds like an amateur optometrist as others have said.

He is not bad. Spent close to 3 hours on my eyes. This is why I came here. Maybe someone knows something that I am missing as I am not sure how to explain to him what I am struggling with.

Maybe I need to see a specialist.

Doing what?

It should take no more than half an hour to do pretty much every test they have…maybe 45 min on a real slow day.

Really does sound like a complete amateur because if you don’t correct the bad eye then the other eye will simply get worse.

And correcting with glasses early on can extend the need for more extreme prescriptions and sometimes even reverse it.

From one two year cycle to another one of eyes will always get better, but then I’ve always been extremely buggered in one eyes whereas at one point the other one is as pretty much plain glass.

how is this thread still going, I already deduced, in a Dr House epiphany moment, that he has a brain tumor.

/jk i hope you don't have a brain tumor, but either way i dibs the coffee machine

I have mild astigmatism which I only discovered later in life (30-ish). Anyway, my first set of glasses the difference was instant. There were some minor things I had to get used to (feels like my aspect ratio changed), but clarity and focus were instant.

But now adws I type this the text on the screen is not clear. Looks like the font has two over each other with a slight offset.

something like this? (somewhat exaggerated to make it clear (pun possibly intended))

might find that the vertical parts of letters are more offset than the horizontal parts, or vice versa.

keep in mind what problem the optometrist may be trying to solve based on what info you give. He might be trying to give the best compromise solution including things like cost vs convenience vs long term effects. Depending on circumstances some things may not be fixable and you have to find the best approach to manage it that works for you (like with tinnitus).

Also, if working primarily on a laptop monitor - keep in mind the monitor angle will continuously affect the distance between text and artificial lens / cornea/lens / retina depending where on the monitor you are looking (even postural changes / head angle can have an effect) possibly adding to fatigue of all the various muscles trying to keep things in focus.

This is what I don't understand. There is no instant clarity. But everyone gave some good input. Think I am going to go for a second opinion.
