Gmail delete function delayed

I switched to the new Gmail a couple of weeks ago. I haven't changed any settings and all has been working well until a day or two ago. Now, when I try to delete email from my inbox, instead of the mail being sent virtually immediately to the Bin, there is a delay of close on ten seconds after hitting the delete button before the selected mail/s disappears from the inbox. If I double-click the delete button then the selected email/s disappear immediately. On Windows 10, all up to date, using Chrome latest. Anyone else have this issue?

Isn’t this to facilitate the undo function?

Maybe you just aren’t noticing the undo button?

No, the undo option only becomes available after about ten seconds, when the selected mail eventually gets deleted to the bin.

I also found that this same delay is present when selecting mail and then marking as read/unread. It's very odd.



Edit: I reverted to the old Gmail, these functions are immediate, as expected.
