So who have had their Vaction responder in gmail hacked this weekend to send spaim mail to your contacts?

A quick search on the net show this happened to quiet a lot of people!

You can get past this by turning your Vaction responder off - or so they say. We will have to wait to see if it works.

How does the hack work?

They somehow add a message to your Vacation responder and then trigger it to mail people in your contacts.

I have not found any technical details yet

...and I use a strong password for my gmail account...


edit : my vacation responder was turned off, no need to disable it.

It is a "Out of Office" reply.

You can set a message then when you set yourself as away / on holiday it sends a automated reply to anybody who mails you.

yup, hacked over here.
received like 50msgs all at once & when i checked my vac resp yesterday it'd been off, but today i found it on with some message about friend *****!

I didn't even know it was there until this saga

yip had the same problem where mine also got hacked...

Just luckily gmails spam control kicked in and blocked them all

will check the vacation responder later on
