I got an email in my gmail account from the gmail team telling me

Congratulations on creating your brand new Gmail address, [email protected].
Please keep this email for your records, as it contains an
important verification code that you may need should you ever
encounter problems or forget your password.

and then I got an email from that same new email address that was created telling me that I need a new email account. WTF?

Did someone hack into my email and create a new account for me? or can you create a new account for someone without getting into their account?

Eish So i have been compromised

Well, maybe, maybe not. You can spoof email.

Best is to log into Gmail and check bottom for last access, this will give you a list of IP addresses that used your account, you can check that list against the PC's/area you use.

Still, only idiots dont use 2-step system Google provided, there is no excuse.

Check where(IPs) your account has been logged onto from recently. but probably..... yes.

Glad I saw this thread, I just enabled 2-step verification. The trouble is, I'm not getting the sms, so I used the voice call option. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm with VC.

@OP: As the others have said, check the IP addresses, and another thing, as soon as you think you've been hacked, change your password. Rather safe than sorry.

meh... seems CellC's still not playing ball... :(

I don't have 2-step verification enabled. Gotta bug CellC about that...

SMS's sometimes are delayed, that is why its better to use the Authentication app. On that note, have no idea when or if the Windows Phone will come out or is out. Have you checked the windows market if there is one?

Edit: Quick Google gave me http://code.google.com/p/google-authenticator/issues/detail?id=49 Might be worth a look

iOS : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-authenticator/id388497605?mt=8
Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2
BlackBerry : goto m.google.com/authenticator on your phone.

With the Authenticator you dont need to wait for SMS's

It happened yesterday and I didn't check the IP so all the latest IP's now are mine. I did change my PW though. Don't hackers usually change your PW if they long into your account? Also nothing unusual was in my sent items.

Also first time I've heard of this. Trying to set it up now but getting no love from CellC. Tried a few sms requests and now a voice call, still no luck.

Thanks, I only got the sms now (around 10 minutes later :p)

I'm hoping to get a windows phone this week, so I'll try the app you found via google. I don't think theres one for my current S60v3 nokia.

Thanks again ;)

Just got through now.

What a delay.

Will set it up tomorrow. Bed is calling! :D

Yeah, at least you can Authorize a PC for 30 days at a time so its not like you have to wait for 10 minutes every time you want to access your email, well unless you use other people's PC's all the time.
