Hi I am having problems accessing my gmail emails through Outlook 2002 using a axxess.co.za adsl account. I used to access my gmail through a mweb adsl account and it would download fine. But since I have moved to axxess I cant download my mails. I can access gmail.com through my firefox (and IE) but cant get them in Outlook.

I can ping smtp.gmail.com and smtp.saix.net (ditto pop) but the error message i keep getting in outlook is "can not connect to incomming mail (pop) server" Also if i test account settings in Outlook i cant connect to smtp or pop or send a test email

AAAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhh i am going mad.

Would my DNS settings have anything to do with it?? Also have tried to disable nortons, but that hasnt helped

Yes indeed. You need SSL enabled for pop and smtp servers in outlook. Pop SSL is 995 and smtp is 465. Hope that helps.

Ditto

Ah, and I thought I was the only one.....niceto find someone experiencing the same problem. I have checked these settings on my account, and they correspond to what has been suggested. To be sure, are the settings the same for Intekom & Axxess? In fact when I access gmail via Intekom, I can download the messages, but not if I access via DSL (Axxess) . It seems that one needs to change something in the settings.

Thanks,

Thanks,
maybe axxess is blocking those ssl ports ... find out:confused:

My port settings are also fine, I will check with axxess and see what they say, thanks

The response from axxess

"Hi There

I also use a g-mail account some times and seems to work fine, mweb runs on the SAIX backbone just like our accounts, so it should in theory be no different, having a look at the form

It seems this problem is only occurring once a switch from one ISP to another is done, could you please specify what OS, Anti Virus and as well as any fire wall settings you might have, We do not block or shape any ports on our side, this is all controlled by SAIX – Unfortunately"

I dont know if this will help, but I will look at me settings later to-night.

Ok thanks, I am using Windows XP SP2, Nortons 2005, and the normal XP firewall settings (but i have disabled the firewall and it doesnt make a difference)

Hi I think it is the router because I have tried to use MWeb ADSL log-in details on my new router and I have the same problem but i know that they work on an older TELKOM ADSL router. So I have looked through some other postings and it looks like you have to set the ports on the router see http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=52266&highlight=Premium+Combo+Router

I dont quite understand it though. If someone can help setting ports on a Premium Combo Router it would be great

I've worked it out, just set your ip address to 10.0.0.4 (static) and the default gateway to 10.0.0.2.

hi guys,

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I needed to add something to this thread for anyone who does a search when they have this same problem.

I finally got it right after I realised I was entering pop3.gmail.com instead of pop.gmail.com.

Force of habit made me enter the '3'.
