This whole revolt started with Linus making public his feelings toward the new Gnome 3, this opened the floodgate for people to start an all out revolt and it seems the fight is far from over.
The ball is now in the developer's court, they now have to tread lightly and make sure they either listen to the people or loose all their market share to other options.

Deep down I wish Linus would have had a personal 1-on-1 with the devs and discussed his grievances. He should know better than to just outright attack a project, his word carries much weight whether it is founded or not...
But that is just Linus on the other hand.
