Go away and play

Heh

no amount of nagging will get me to buy a game at the current prices.
So no Xbox for me. IMO the only ones buying them are the rich (for the kids) or those without kids who game themselves...

Okay, has some thought been put into this article or did the person who wrote it decide "screw it I'm going on holiday" ?

It starts out with how MS is going to take over the world and bring record sales with it's Xbox360 in South Africa and ends up being a slew of negative comments about the console?

Did the person who wrote it have an expectation of the console being in their price range and looked forward to the launch only to find they couldn't afford it and now has some kind of vengeance against the console? Or they just plain lazy because it's almost xmas time?

This article was worthless and not to any kind of point except the normal "hey I'm south african let's bitch about something" (yea, like I'm doing now)

wtf?

What are you on about? He gives the pros and cons of the xbox 360, thats a fairly typical format for any kind of product review.

Oh? So it was a product review? I couldn't tell because he never really ended or started with any kind of point in mind. And he claims within the first sentance that he doesn't know much about the XBox360 anyway? Or was that a spelling mistake on his part? How can someone who knows nothing about the Xbox review it? Probably the reason for the bad format into what it was written...

No offence but considering the author it was a pretty half-assed review.

A very poor article for many reasons. The kind the newspapers use to fill space when there's nothing else. No research of any value apart from the "bulky power supply" and "noisy fan" information. There's not even a comparison with other consoles, despite mentioning the PS3.

Yeah, I reckon it was a piece done in the car while driving to Plettenburg bay for his holiday. Why did we even need to know about it in the first place?

All relative I guess. I own an Xbox 360 and am not rich at all. The launch price of the Xbox 360 is cheaper than what the PS2 was available for in South Africa... 4 years ago! A wide range of Xbox 360 games are available for hire at R10-R15 per day from places like Rondebosch Video in Cape Town. Then the excellent BT Games range of stores have a full range of used Xbox 360 games that sell for as little as R200. They also allow you to trade in your used games, and offer a loyalty scheme that gives you discounts on future purchases. Of course, you could also import games from places like eBay, if you feel that you will get a better deal over the Ocean.

Game currently has a special for the premium system at about R3 500 which includes a free game and additional wireless controller (premium system already includes a hard-drive, headset etc.)

My point...? Relatively speaking, gaming has never been this cheap or accessible. For less than the price you paid for a PS2 a few years ago, you are getting a lot more - high definition graphics, in-built hard-drive, wireless controllers, internet gaming, rental options and a thriving used market. The Xbox 360 has grown up very quickly in S.A., and is cheaper than most next gen cell phones.

and my point... which are you - a gamer yourself or do you have kids and are wealthy? As for gaming never being this affordable...
I miss the NES system myself...

I am a gamer myself, and have a 12 yr old who games as well.

Regarding the NES, it launched in the U.S.A. in 1986 with a bundle price of $249 twenty years ago. That's actually relatively more expensive (taking inflation etc into account) than the Xbox 360 core which is available in the USA for $299 today, or even the premium which is currently $399.

In South Africa we were spoilt in the late late 80s early 90s by having cheap (and illegal in most parts of the world) Taiwanese manufactured NES emulators, with bootleg carridges that sold for a fraction of the price of the original NES, or Japanes FamiCom.

The Xbox 360 today is no more expensive than the NES was 20 years ago - in many respects it's cheaper, offering a lot more for a lot less.

Pray tell what is this loch ness monster of which you speak? - I was obviously not one of the spoilt South Africans to have had parents that could afford such a thing.

Looks like a review someone came up with in 5 mins to fill some column inches.

As are most people who buy the machine. I see your point with the rentals... but still - I'd like to own the games...
I agree with the nes thing - but for us here it still made gaming alot more affordable than it is now. Bottom line is that x grand + x per game.... lets say R300 for games and R3500 for console... R6500 for console + 10 games - not exactly in my budget for the kids and I earn a decent salary...
Still no xbox for me, but as a gamer, I understand the route you took... always nice to do stuff with the kids. I'll wait to see if wii can do better personally.

Just got my Xbox 360 pro, Was on special at game. Got an extra wireless controller and Oblivion with it. The cashier then proceeded to charge R300 cheaper than the price of the pro console. So i came out quite the happy chappy....

Already downloaded 3 top games, burnt to DVD-9, flashed my xbox 360 dvd firmware and they play perfectly :)

Hey zig - flashed your firmware?
i.e. no chips?
:) ?

Oh ja - and is it worth it for 4Mbps?
I wanna u/g I think...
