Gmail and SMS unread badges work perfectly. However, I haven't seen an unread off my pop3 account (sorry, don't have an exchamge account I can load). You don't get the unread counts on whatsapp, gtalk etc either, even with external app notifiers turned on. That said, Apex is the best launcher I've used. Well worth the small amount of money.
