Sure you can ship to a US address as a US customer, but there goes your warranty with Amazon directly. I doubt very much if MyUS will help you there. If you have family/friends, sure, but it's a mission.

I'm not sure I understand you as using a forwarding service has no impact on the one year warranty. The disadvantage of course is that it's going to cost you if there is a problem as Amazon will only send parts to the US address so there will be additional delivery fees. I checked this out with them directly.

You can also download and convert books to kindle format using calibre.

about 60 seconds to download a book from amazon (via pc and cable, 3g or wifi depending on model), download all the classics from gutenburg and just copy to your kindle via the usb drive, check the net for books or torrent if you are not into legal stuff.

My kindle took 3 days to arrive.
