Hello all

Can someone use simple, easy, small-word steps to help a complete fool like me get onto 3G HSDPA?

Step 1: Buy a 3G HSDPA red cardie thing for my laptop (done). :D
Step 2: Buy a Vodacom starter pack.
Do I have to buy a special type of 3G data-ish type starter pack or will any old Vodacom prepaid sim-card do.
Step 3: Load money on to the sim-card (like in buy air time)

And then what?

ANY and all help will be greatly appreciated. :D

Hi
You can buy any sim from any outlet they vary from around R2 to R199 depending where you buy, and some have some airtime as well
Buy some air time while you there.
You have to put the sim in your cell dial 100 (VC) to activate and to load airtime
then phone 155 and ask them to activate data on the sim.
Once the sim is activated go to www.vodacom4me.co.za register, keep in mind the 4me register process will send a sms with your password to the new sim so you need to have it in a phone to get the sms.
log-on to vodacom4me.co.za go to accounts then data bundle and buy a bundle, the bundle will expire in a calander month ie 18 April to 18 May
Then you can surf

Yip BFK has got it spot on...

Dont forget to phone 155, I missed out that step took me like half an hour to figure that out! ;)

Go check Pick 'n pay for starter packs. Bought mine for 40c. :D

Can I surf ar 3G speed if i get 3G phone (i.e. K800i) ?
In theory you can although I've seen a few posts saying they don't get good speeds using a 3G phone, personally use the E220, work like a charm.

Can anyone confirm this ?
What speed should I expect ?
Last nite I tried to surf the net using my k800i as a modem, and i got the same gprs speed, if not slower.

PS I do have 3G coverage.

Hey.

I'm using my phone (N73) at the moment. I am definately getting 3G speeds.
Getting downloads around ~35k/s.

I've set my phone to only use UTMS (which is under network settings - not too sure where that would be on the k800i) and I've been really happy!!

Did you have 3G active on your K800? Ps dont try it at night, rather during the day or earl early morning, then if its slow you know its just data traffic.

Ok here's a question.

I have n73, and i want to use that as my modem to connect.
Once i've installed drivers, i got to make a new connection, what are the details i would use for this, like username and password, the number to dial, etc? I would love to try this tonight, so plz plz respond! :)

Thanks

Are you able to browse on your phone already?

If not, you'll have to download the relevant settings first...

Then install Nokia PC suite which came with the N73

Once that is done simply connect to your PC via the cable(which was supplied) or bluetooth

Open Nokia PC suite, and simply click on "Connect to the Internet"

Its as simple as that assuming that your phone was already setup for internet access :) good luck!

Mmm I havent done this in a while, try leaving the name and password blank and *99# as the dial number.

yeah i think thats spot on.

Or you could go the PC suite way, which does eveything for you :)

Ah, cool thanks peeps.
Yea i can browse on my phone, use mxit etc.
Cool, the number is what i needed, also been told that username and pass if needed is vodacom vodacom, so i'll give it a try tonight.
Wondering if one of those data bundles would be worth it. i'll see how it works first. I get 3G and HSDPA enabled signal message so i'll see.

Thanks again

Yeah no prob.

like I said if you use PC suite to connect, then you dont have to worry about the number and password etc... PC suite will take care of that!

Just beneath your signal strength bar you should see "3G" which I think would be more indicative of whether u have 3G signal.

Oh another thing, you might wanna force your phone to only connect via 3G so you need to go to Settings -> network then select UTMS and restart your phone :)

Ah cool, i used the nokia pc suite which connected first time. But i ran out of air time shortly after, so i'm thinking about going to get a bundle maybe today, or on the weekend. Thanks for the help/

3G USB Modem ???

Hi I want to get myself one of these

Vodacom 3G USB Modem... What is the prices for one one them? I helped someone the other day to setup his modem and tested it with his pay as you go simcard, worked very nice. But he did not have the price for it, his work supplied him with the modem, for doing work from home...

Had a look on the net but did not find any prices yet...

Please help...
