2006 85000km, DSG Black and selling for R140k.
Is this a bargain?
I make R22k a month so I think I can afford it.

Should I?

As incridible as those DSG 'boxes are, I have my reservations over a standard manual/auto. It is not the gearbox or dual-clutch system failure and associated cost that worries me..it's the dual mass flywheel that is paired with those gearboxes that won't see 120,000km is the best of cases...

Nett or gross?

EDIT: Also, saying you earn 22k helps us nothing if you have expenditure of 21k every month.

How so? With a decent interest rate that would be around R3k pm with no deposit. Would hardly call that a dent in the pocket.

Unless you're referring to maintenance costs...

Finally, someone with some sense.

Rather get a new car, the car is over 5 years old and a DSG is a nightmare out of warrenty.

Which Golf 5 is it?

If you buying cash or short term and have some extra for things go pear shaped go for it. If you are planning on financing it over 5 years look elsewhere. i20 etc.

yup - im thinking of selling my 2007 1.9tdi G5 dsg with 64,000k for about R140k. All the research ive done indicates this is how much they sell for.

It's a leka car. Drove my parents one again tonight. Surprising performance for a 1.4. Might not be as sexy as the golf but does its job very well.

Sure, the i20 is a great little car. I drive the i20 as a rental very often, but go drive any Golf 5 and compare. It's completely different - miles ahead of the i20.

The i20 isn't in the same league as the Golf.

Indeed it isn't, but if we are all honest this guy's salary is also not in Golf league. Not even close. The cold reality is that it is in i20 league or even less
