I normally get some kind of warning, either a short here and there. Or dying on me then starting again or something like that. The only thing that ever caught me by surprise was the cam-belt that came out of no where.
 
When my golf died a couple of years ago, it turned out to be the relay that was shot. The car would just die on me and then be ok the next day until eventually it was completely dead. They said that water had been getting into the housing and they moved the housing (iirc) and replaced the relays. Been fine ever since. I also, initially, suspected a fuel problem. I hope it gets sorted out quickly.

That is one way of putting it.

More like them having all these moods and nothing we do pleases them. When they are cold they are cold. When they don't want to do anything they won't and so on. Actually thinking about it, my car has more in common with my wife than I do :D

I intend to... I just hope I can get it sorted out without being shafted.
 
Taking your car to a mechanic is like telling your wife you want a divorce, being shafted will be the least of your problems.
 
Got my car back from the guy, he replaced the coil, spark plugs, but looks like I'll need the electronics looked at and got a phone number for a guy he recommended.. Still no spark.

I'm trying to stay positive though. ;)
 
Your best bet is to plug it into a diagnostics computer.

I had pinging on my Mk3 GTS after it was serviced, took it to VW, and they charged R450 for the diagnostics. They even adjusted the timing for me.

The computer communicates with the ECU and should be able to tell you where the fault lies.
 
I could not get hold of the Auto-electrician so I bit the bullet and am sending it to vw barons tokai for a quote. I tried to make use of my FNB road side assistance but since they don't allow benefits from your home I got a quote for R500.. tempted to tow my car up the road and call again for my free tow-in service... :)

I just wanted to test out roadside assistance though, see if they could help me out even though my car is stuck at home, and they were helpful.

Update:

Barons says my coil is faulty, and will be 2K to replace.... now thing is the mechanic I took it to(Dad's mate), he mentioned it was the coil too and replaced it with a second hand part which I paid him for already.. I'll see how this goes...
