Golf or a Tazz?

I'm looking at getting another car soon. Just a runabout, something cheap with low mileage and good reliability. I'm thinking of either a Golf or a Tazz, although I'm leaning toward the Tazz (Toyota reliability FTW!).

Also, has anyone bought a car from an auction? I've seen cars go for dirt cheap at auctions, but I've heard it's not for the feint-hearted..

Me personally would totally go for the Tazz, I got one and so far had no problems with it and its a 2006 model had 15k on the clock going 75k now, was about R62 000.

Nope never bought from a Auction

+1 For the Tazz - they're nice cars - my mom owns one :p Prefer them to Golfs.

Tazz

I assume you are reffering to a Golf Chicco or something like that? Those things to this day still rust in all the same places.

I guess it's gonna be a Tazz then!

My budget is around R35-40K. I think I'm going to go to an auction and see what's there. I'm sure I'll be able to find something that's decent-ish ... I hope.

You must be able to get the auctioned car at half the book value, otherwise you don't win. VAT, auctioneers fees, etc add up quickly.
R5000 deposit before you can even bid, and I am not sure if that is always refundable.

I think neither, get a 1998-2001 Toyota Corolla, I think you can fin them around the R50k range.

if its between those 2, then go for the toyota...

..even if you ignore the good reliability, its not a 70s design like the vw

Let's see:

Tazz: Old ass car and slow as hell (and I do mean slow, made my Corsa feel like a super car after getting out of the Tazz), reliable tho.

*****ty Golf: Old ass car, unsafe, stolen like crazy, not particularly reliable.

Bleh, much rather take something other than those 2.

genetic, do yourself a favour and phone for insurance quotes. I don't know about tazz but golfs get stolen all over the show. I have had 4 friends that have had their golfs stolen and they pay like R500+ insurance a month. More than i do on a polo.

I mean i would go for golf, but to get a complete picture of the costs involved phone around for insurance quotes.

Tazz I guess.

I had a Chiti Golf once, very reliable. Stood for about two years, put in new battery and it started first turn of the key, awesome car, *** to drive. Then it was stolen. If you can drive a ****i, you can drive anything! Anyway, the Tazz is newer, easier to drive etc. Just don't buy a white one ;)

Why not get a hyundai getz? They are quite zippy and newer than the tazz.

Golfs are a hijacker's dream.

My answer to that question is neither..

For 35k - 40k you can get so many better things than either of those two pieces of scrap.
