Gonubie getting VDSL!

Just that slightly higher sync and Youtube is instant as apposed to previously buffering for 5-10sec.

I sync at 5mbps, but the mini ATM can only handle 4mbps. To top it off that new Telkom system boosted my latency by 20ms

VDSL in Gonubie ?... Telkom is retarded. Meanwhile in Beacon Bay we are still on 4mbps.

I know that feel, I go for a walk around the yard and see a massive tower not 100m from my house, still hasn't got it's aviation red light thingy on it, still haven't got more than 4mb.

My line stats after connection to the new MSAN give me a theoretical max download speed of 52mb on VDSL. Only 900m from said MSAN.

We have been sucking hind you know what for a long time with mega evening congestion. Finally things have improved.

Strange.. I was in 18th avenue and never had any congestion any time of the day. I call this a conspiracy

Was very bad top of 2nd Street between 5pm and 11pm. I complained to Telkom several times and was advised to please be patient as the new MSAN was in the pipeline.

So I currently pay R488pm for 4mb.

10mb will cost R614pm, damn its a big adjustment, extra R126pm.
Currently syncing at 5mb, maybe I should see how that goes with streaming first.

Worth every cent. And for only R24 more after 10mb, you can get 20mb..... which I intend going for in a few days

MEH! A week of 10mb (syncing at 12mb) and I have become used to the speed already. Just gave Afrihost the greenlight to move me up to 20mb ADSL for R24 more per month.... will report back if it happens successfully

I chose ADSL as I am not keen to spend on a VDSL modem/router....

Damn, back to syncing at 4mb last night, hope it's not to do with the phone call I had wit Telkom about maybe upgrading.

Not for long...

Telkom are busy in Beacon Bay. All those old UMC street boxes are being removed. ISAMs are being installed and some areas will go straight to FTTH.

Because you are so close to the exchange your ISAM is inside the building itself.

Great news. What is the usual timeframe from installation of ISAMs to working FTTH?

ISAMs will be used for VDSL (up to 40Mbps).

FTTH feeds straight back to the exchange, so not really linked. While driving around see if there are any concrete plinths being built...
