Good data deals hidden behind contracts.

Does anyone have any idea why ISPs "hide" good data deals behind contracts? As a prepaid customer I have gotten really bad service from customer service of my ISP and I have heard of stories of how difficult it is to cancel contracts and being charged for months for products you have not recieved. So this discourages me from taking out data contracts because I don't want any of those problems and I don't want to screq with my credit score. Why are those good looking offers made availabel to prepaid customers?

Contract = 99% assured income over a longer term = more income = better deal? Economies of scale? Pay more, get more? Whereas with prepaid you could bow out tomorrow.

In any case, there are some nice prepaid deals to be had on Telkom, Cellc and even MTN if I recall correctly.
