I'm looking for a 450v 100uf capacitor to replace the one that blew in my old LCD monitor (pic below), as well as some 20mm 2A ceramic fuses and fuse holders. I've tried searching and see Communica has them but their site is knackered...

Any other reputable similar brick and mortar or online stores; I'm in Randburg JHB

+1 for rabtron and mantech have used them both.

Rs components is in kyalami their prices aren't great but for what you are buying it should not make much difference.

Oh, one leg is missing. :)
Are you sure capacitor is shortened? I not, then a dry capacitor would be just a reason triggering catastrofic failure. Double check for shorted MOVs, input rectifier bridge and the main switching Mosfet.

Really not sure tbh. The one leg is not connected any more, seemed to have broken off or shorted off. Nothing else seems bad by looking at the components.
There was quite a bit of dust buildup on the caps it or and board when I opened up the rear case, not sure if that could have caused this. No blackening of other close components either.

The monitor is from 2006, Benq 19" LCD, so it's had a good run.

I use Mantech often for components, good prices and usually very fast, almost always get my components the next morning if I order in the morning. Only thing is their site doesn't have SSL for some reason ..
Have used RS components as well, not as fast as Mantech and tend to be a bit more expensive, I only use them now if I can't get what I need from Mantech.

Strange thing is it worked fine till Sat, then nothing, no smell, pop or othetwise.

Figured I'd replace the capacitor and fuse on the off chance. If it doesn't work, not much lost, if it does, bonus ;)

I previously replaced some motherboard caps that had blown/fried and all was good after replacement.

Caps can (eventually) leak their corrosive contents at this particular point, as a result of the 'legs' being bent too close to the body of the cap and damaging the seal. This one shows where one leg has been completely corroded, the other leg was clipped to remove the cap. If you replace the cap you could be OK.
