good enough parts?

Oh man....you can afford pretty much anything with that budget. Why not go GTX280? Then rather than an i7 just get a Q9650.

I would say go for a bigger PSU and a bigger GPU - perhaps the memory doesn't need to be so expensive?

I know, but this is all from one site, that's why I said, shop around, I know you can get cheaper and sometimes better parts elsewhere.

with all respect said,im a nvidia fan of gpu's.but why is everyone raving so much over the ati hd 4750/4780 cards?i was thinking in the line of 9800gt,9800gtx or 260/280gtx.....your comments please and the must be 1 gig and 256bit or higher.............................512mb wont do:sick:

You mean 4850/4870? Just check out the benchmarks and the price. I had an 8800GT which wasn't bad at all - my 4850 leaves it standing, and cost about the same. Anyhow a 260 will outperform it, but you'll pay twice as much - but that's really your call. I'm a big Nvidia fan as well with the drivers but I can't say anything against my 4850, it's a dream.

Currently ATI is better for price/performance ratio. They are also less power-hungry.

You will not need 1GB for playing at ±1280x1024. Perhaps others could elaborate.

Because they are great gpus.

The 1gig 4870 should be great for you. If you reallywant nVidia, even though they don't have DX10.1, get the gtx 260core216.

You're right. Even at 1680*1050 1gig doesn't make a difference. If you ever get a 24" monitor, then you can get a 1gig card.

WOW. That's the asus card as well. You could probably get a gecube or fore3d for like R3300.

9800gtx vs 4870 isn't even close. The 4850 tears up the 9800GTX. 9800GTX+ is about the same as 4850. 4870 is way beyond.

well then i'll take a 4870.tahnks guys.another one.....cpu i was thinking in the line of e8400?you agree?:D

E8500 is R50 - R100 more.

But Dual vs Quad core is an entirely different kettle of fish.

For gaming, currently, I'd go with the E8500. For future-proof, go Quad core. This is very generalised.

tomshardware has a huge chart showing how every graphics card compares on 3dmark. Just do a search.
