Good Golf Courses In Gauteng

I've played Copperleaf & Serengeti before & wondering what's their current condition? Then considering some of:

Steyn City
Blair Atholl
Pecanwood
Ebotse
Pretoria CC
Royal Joburg
Glendower
Bryanston
Houghton
Maybe even Sun City if it's worth the drive

Steyn City is pretty and a nice course, but brutally expensive.

If I were to pick, I would do firethorn, copperleaf, bryanston and parkview.

Dont like Pecanwood much, dont know why, but I have never really liked it.

Gary player is stunning if you can take the drive and the weather plays ball

What's the road like to drive to Sun City from Centurion in a hatch? And would the course be green this time of year?

Cant comment on roads, the course is usually not perfect green at this time, but i dont think that detracts whatsoever.
It is a walking course, so if you arent up for walking, might need to play lost city.

Or....just go to fancourt and play the 3 courses there, enjoy 2 of them, marvel at the links while you hate how hard it is.

The only course I can think of that is guaranteed to be perfectly green is steyn.

Last time I checked Fancourt Links was 5k to play...
 
Killarney, Houghton & Kyalami really nice courses.
Serengeti should also be on the list.
...and out South - Eye of Africa
 
Glenvista, but I'm biased because it's where I stay.

Sun City is cool, but I prefer the Lost City course. It's a bit more isolated away from all the people and kids doing their holiday schit.

Peacanwood at Harties is also decent...

They have specials where you stay at the hotel and play all 3 courses. If you catch a good one you get it all for 10k.
Which is actually quite good for 3 nights accomodation, breakfast, 3 rounds at spectacular courses and I think we got lunch vouchers.

We walked all of them and the caddies were expensive as hell, but its an experience.

As a casual golfer, I would skip the links though and just do the other 2. Links is difficult

I've played some of those, some a long time ago though, Royal Joburg is great and Glendower is one of the lesser known gems, add CCJ to your list as well. I haven't played Wanderers in a long time but used to enjoy it, Killarney and Parkview are interesting to play as well. I'll be at Pecanwood from tomorrow for a few days so will see how the course is but it is generally good as they use borehole and dam water for irrigation.

CCJ has at least two premises, Auckland Park is their original premises which has cricket field, bowling, tennis, squash, gym, pools, etc. along with restaurants, bars, lounges, venues, residence, etc. The golf course was originally in the area but it moved to Woodmead and a second golf course was built along with tennis, squash, pool, etc. and has a restaurant, bar, venues, etc. as well. One of the buildings at the Auckland Park premises caught fire but I am not sure of the extent of the damage.
 
I'm a current member of CCJ.
The original golf course is what is now part of SABC and UJ.
In the 1960s the club was at risk of be expatriated for the above projects, originally to established as RAU.
The club at the time recognised the risk and managed to sell the golf course part of the club but retain the club house and smaller fields cricket etc.
They used the funds then to buy a farm in Woodmead as the area wasn't developed at that stage.
They developed the golf course in the following years on said land.


The Fire happened 2/3 weeks ago, it effected the main part of the building passage way and a dining room.
Thankful most of the functional part of the building unaffected kitchen, members bars, patio, main function room etc.
At this stage the club is open with a limited menu and no big functions with plans to open more areas as it is declared safe.

Long shot, but does anyone know of a local scramble competition in the area on the 26th we can join?
 
Jir but this place is dry at the moment eh? Flew in yesterday and it was not a nice sight. Hopefully we get some rain on Tuesday.
