Good NAS case?

Unraid is actually pretty bad in terms of data safety. I can point out why if you care?

Go for it...

My biggest drive for using different size drives is that I already have two 1.5TB drives, two 1TB drives... and 3 500GB drives... which I'd like to be able to use, and swap out with bigger drives as I move along.

From Esquire:

AEROCOOL RS-4 BLACK NO PSU - R568.86 (incl)
Antec 900 Two (Nine Hundred Two) V3 - R910.86 (incl)

Esquire is the supplier for both of those cases. Why would you buy them from Zaps? Essentially you are paying for Zaps to be the middle man?

um Gnome... I don't have account with Esquire (and yes know you can get one being myBB member)

I am posting what I see retailing, so pls don't moan about it.

they are only suggestions... I guess could have just posted the names of the things, but that would be being a bit lazy.

maybe next time in your 1st reply add that you have those cheap brackets that you can sell him and I will not bother to go look for a solution.

sorry tried to help.

Relax man, I wasn't criticizing you. Hell I didn't even know Esquire sold them until I noticed it by accident. I was pointing it out because I didn't know if you knew.

As to the cheap brackets, I offered them based on your recommendation, once again, not as criticism but as a low cost option along with the case. I know some stores might still have those brackets I bought (although when we tried to find some the other day everyone was out of stock).

well then let's do it this way...

essentially any case could do that has, as a reference - 1 of these combinations:
- 6x 3.5" bays plus 3/4x 5.25", or
- more 5.25" for more expanding via brackets

but see as per his looking at the Antec, he at least wants some decent cooling as well why I posted that Aerocool as to my original post which was the basic CM Elite, which has no front fan.

Well from personal experience, make sure you have fans on the front.

All my NAS devices have had full house in terms of fans in front. Eg. 120mm x3, 80mm x4, etc.

I've had a 120mm fan fail on my current NAS and the drives got very hot, ventilation is very important!

It is more of a server rather than a normal PC afterall.

yeah...

why originally also posted the CM 3-4 expansion bay because of the added fan it has.

where as those brackets posted, don't really have.

but hey, can even probably ghetto something together but I always prefer getting something already done.

Yeah I was going to buy that one.

Only thing I didn't like was the price (799 excl), the fact that a PSU cannot be mounted to pull in air from the bottom and it is too tall because of that 200mm fan for my space requirements.

Good case tho.

Why unraid rather than FreeNAS 8.0.2?

I noticed this too. It seems you can't get any Antec case that has ventilation holes on the bottom where the PSU goes - it's very strange. My cheapie Thermaltake case even has ventilation holes and a dust filter there.

A pic of my almost complete build, I'm still waiting for the RAID card but it is otherwise complete except for hard-drives:

PSU is pulling air from the bottom.

@gnome, what is that above the bays, is it part of case or seperate accessory?

How many drives were you running when the failure happened.
