Good replacement for my 280?

so the 470/480 will out perform a 280?even though the 280 has 3gb 384 bit?

Gonna opt for 470 cause i can get one at a very good price...
is it worth it or save that extra and get 480..cause can't see real difference spec wise between 470 and 480 or am I missing something?

Yes, both cards are faster than the 280. The 400 series is a new architecture that's also a lot more power efficient (although Nvidia still wins in the department i.e. their 10 series)

The 470 has lower clocks, fewer SPs and only has a 4GB option compared to the 480. Although it's not that much slower.

How good is the price because the RX 480 Red Dragon 4GB is currently on sale at Wootware for only R300 more than the RX 470 Red Devil.

Thanks for this thread, it has caught me up with most of the last 2-3 years of GPU developments. :)
