Good state hospitals,URGENT!

Hi guys my friends dad has been admitted to hospital and has no medical aid and she is all in a panic now because he has to go to a state hospital, does anyone know of decent state hospitals(I know none are really decent) in or around the vaal area, or just outside of JHB somewhere, hopefully someone can help, they've said Sebokeng hospital isnt to bad but dunno if i can trust this.
 
anything in the vaal area should be fine, you'd like to avoid PTA/JHB Gen really, too many people. Think my sister was at Sebokeng when she gave birth to her new daughter and lost a lot of blood.
 
Listen, it's not the hospitals per se you have to worry about, it's the actual doctors and nurses that are the issue.
If you happen to get a good "shift" then you are fine - if not, you can even goto private and have all the money in the world - you will still die.
It's DR's and their skills that is what seperates them from each other.

This can happen in any hospital, private or public. It is one of the hazards of childbirth.
 
Im just looking for hospital that someone who has had a good experience with, not a debate :/

Steve Biko in Pretoria is a good shot. It's a tertiary hospital so it is relatively well-funded and well-staffed. Stay FAR away from Tshwane. All the public hospitals in Johannesburg are short on staff/supplies and should be avoided if possible.

Since the upgrade it received years ago it has been a very good hospital and a few friends have been admitted there.

My grandfather was also a regular visitor until he passed and we could never find fault with the service from nurses or doctors.
 
Why dont you just take the old man o Baragwanath Best hospital in Jozi for real and people there are very helpfull from what I have seen

There ain't no such thing, Dude.
The best you can hope for is a State Hospital that won't kill him, where there are less cockroaches than usual, and where there are bed sheets (having the bed sheets actually washed once a month would be a major plus).
You will have to bring him food and drink so that he doesn't die of Botulism.
Having Doctors and Nurses that will be able to look after him is a 50/50 shot.
Hopefully he will get lucky.

That's a good one I agree, the health minister and his family use it.

He does use it - you can dispel your doubts now. But you're right he probably gets special treatment so the hospital looks good when he's there.

It's a tertiary hospital, has a private hospital area and then also the public hospital area. It is fairly well funded and has excellent staff with professors among them as well as many interns so that the doctors aren't overworked.
My wife worked there for two years during her internship and my sister-in-law still works there. They've treated several prominent people.

I've also hear a few goods things about the Baragwanath hospital, my brother in law used to go there and he never really had any issues.
 
Hmmm the bigger state hospitals are good, especially those with specialist clinics. The problem is getting to them requires a referral letter you can't just rock up.

Don't be afraid of state hospitals, you will get questionable doctors and horrible waiting times, but considering the alternative it's not so bad. If you get referred to the specialists hospitals you will be well treated. See state hospitals have a bad name because of waiting times and practitioners on training the inexperience shows.
