Just cancelled after being with them for about 4 yrs now. Wow a long time and I did it because I am sick of being charged for sub standard speeds and service. P2P shaped up the rear end, signal fluctuaions and contention on the network. Not to mention the pings on gaming.

Just ordered 4mb ADSL.
So long Iburst.

Let us know if the cancellation goes smoothly or if accounts say you owe them more money before they will accept your cancellation.

Even if it does seem to go smoothly keep an eye on your bank account from now on in case they try to slip a debit through at a later date without your knowledge.

I am on month to month for the last couple of months anyway so I cannot owe them money. I have put a stop order on Iburst and told them in no uncertain terms that if they take money off my account by any way that they normaly try and do, I will see them in court. Thanks mate.

Have you got a phoneline yet marine1 and checked to make sure you're on a 4mbps exchange? I almost went the ADSL route a few months ago but I can only get 512k in my area :P

I can't believe people are still willing to risk dealing with Telkom....

Masochistic or a sucker for their lies? or maybe the benchmark for reasonable delivery is just that low...

try calling the number for support of an existing telkom account just to remind yourself what you are letting yourself in for.

Nothing personal, but I've had my share of Telkom nightmares and i still hear various colleagues unsuccessfully fighting for service on a daily basis.

Sure IBurst has their issues, but opting for Telkom is simply rediculous

@doublefrangelico, I had iburst for +2 years at the full 1mbps most the time, been on 4mbps TELKOM since June with no problem at all and I'd still rather deal with telkom than that crappy iburst SA company.

As already said by marine "They make Telkom look like angels" which I agree with 100%

wow so I applied for telkom new line yesterday and it is installed and working at 1600 today- so far fantastic service

Nice, was similar to the service I got, from the minute I called TI till the time I was online with self install on month 2 month was under 36 hours, pretty good service from the so called "devil" don't you think?:D

Also I've had no problems since I got my 4mbps connection, not saying that problems won't come at some stage but that could happen with any ISP.

If TI mess me around I'll make sure to post about it, but until that happens as far as I'm concerned I'm happy with the TI service as far as SA ISP services go anyway. :D

I got a modem up front and pay R469 a month for my 1.5Gig softcap (Tradepage). Had it for a few years now and ....:
I can push 15Gig a month, thats more than anybody with a 3Gig adsl account. (slow and steady wins the race)
I can skype beautifully with video, no problems. (including skype out to uk and usa)
I have almost no down time and if there is a problem their helpdesk has been very good. (only the iburst help desk .. wbs/tradepage/etc is run by monkeys)
Their accounts department sucks. They must have hired a troop of monkeys and gave them hats.

As for p2p traffic and shaping. 99% of p2p traffic is illegal. I'm sure the users that generate the 1% of p2p traffic that is legal are the users that complain.

iBurst, IMHO, is the most economically viable broadband provider.
Perhaps I'm just one of those lucky users.

Iburst may be ok for tha average user however this is now 2008 (just about) and this bull about 1mb speed does not exist. Time to put the money where the mouth is and offer reall speed without this shaping. My 3g Vodacom makes this look stupid and I am sure that 4mb ADSL will do the same (provided that is what I can get). Iburst is crap service and would only recomend it if there is no ADSL available. Iburst should be on 2mb at least by now.

I can push 15Gig a month, thats more than anybody with a 3Gig adsl account.

I used to average +45GB per month on iburst at FULL speed,:D

BTW I'm now on a 3GB ADSL package and for the past few months till November averaged +_80GB on ADSL , this month I've filled a 250GB HDD which I bought in the first week of December and almost run out of space on my main HDD.
At least 95% of the above was international.:D

There is no way to get even near 250GB on iburst, but I still think it's a good system, just a pity it's been run by idiots.

@marine1, I'm on a month 2 month "do level 3 package" which I'm quite happy with and had no problems at all so far.

I've already had quite a few years worth of bandwidth out of it if you consider it's supposed to be a 3GB package, which is far more bandwidth than I could have got from any other ISP including iburst.

Granted maybe one day in the near future the international side of the package will be hard capped at 3GB with free 30GB local after cap, but right now while TI is still testing it's flying at +4mbps on my side.
When that happens and if I need more international I'll use the Axxess voucher bandwidth which costs R70 per GB.
