I've decided to make the move. Hopping on over to Afrihost. M-Web cancellation form has been sent.

Edit:

I am not unhappy with the service I have received thus far, which is why this cancellation has been difficult.

Afrhost seems to be able to provide a much more transparent concept of how their network manages heavy load, or even a single heavy user. This I believe is a key factor.

In my opinion - great choice!

Did someone eat the bull**** PR? I guess these ISPs all suffered and like Neotel are going to suffer:

There's only one reason mweb and the mweb guy keeps on lying to defend this point: They want to be able to redefine it as it suits them.

Nothing is stopping mweb to reveal this, like all the ISPs who had and are using the rolling windows now like Neotel LTE

These have been done away with - just some info

Morning, your usage reflects that you are within acceptable parameters.

We are within our first month of throttling on our premium shaped accounts, it is still a work in progress.

I wish someone at mweb can tell us what is their acceptable parameters?

I concur with the above regarding Afrihost. I'm on a 1mb uncapped and am very happy. I have been d/l more than usual the last few months, I would say 50-150gb/month, and haven't really noticed much throttling, though I do notice that torrents are quite slow in the evenings now. Not a problem, as most torrents are running late at night/early morning.
If I were thinking about making a change in ISP at this stage, I might wait until we see how the ISP's are going to deal with Telkom's free bandwidth speed upgrades. However, based on past experience with Afrihost, they will usually offer the best value in this regard as well.

Just changed over to Afrihost this morning. Saw a 25% speed increase in Origin downloads. I don't actually know why I waited so long.

I am in my last month of throttle ..... Moving away from M-unethical Web is also a work in progress.
Does Afrihost also look after the line or do I leave that with Telkom?

How long until one receives any real confirmation of the cancellation?

Moving the line to afrihost and creating a bundle will save you money

I received my confirmation today.

I just spoke with a colleague that has Afrihost 2Mbps uncapped.

He has done 38.6GB this month and is shaped at the moment. 50% Downloads and 25% P2P. (100% Real Time). What exactly does this mean? I would have thought 38.5GB to be low for 50% shaping on downloads.

They are shaping everyone at the moment as they are seeing an increase in "demand" at the moment. I think that is rep talk for we have signed up too many clients and do not have the capacity to serve our customers like before. The AfriCrap experience is completely pathetic at the moment. I have honestly not had so much crap from them ever!! This kind of **** was the reason I moved from Telkom to Afrihost. Now I think it is time to jump ship again. That elusive green grass is somewhere out there.

But to answer your question. Afrihost does no shape clients based on their usage. They shape on demand!! So my buddy, that I got to sign up with them, cause they are sooo "good", is being shaped to 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P and he has only downloaded just over 3BG. So whether you use 1GB a month or 1TB, you will be shaped! And for the last 2 weeks all AfriHost clients that I know of, 7 in total across SA, have been shaped out of their minds. Currently I will not, and cannot, recommend Afrihost to anyone. They need to first show me that they care about their clients again. Cause I have lost all faith in their abilities over the last 2 weeks.

I'm sorry that we have disappointed you. We are absolutely sincere with regard to exactly what has been happening and why shaping has been more severe that it has been up to now. Logically though, unless all the new clients signed up on a single day, we would have seen a gradual increase in traffic, and not a sudden sustained excess of demand. We don't believe this is due to oversubscription, we carefully monitor and plan according to usage trends, and no-one could have predicted this sudden and sustained increase in traffic. We believe we are giving the best experience under the circumstances, and we will alway make the best decisions for our clients. We're looking at all possible options to give the very best internet experience we possibly can.

Shaping is dynamic and driven by demand vs capacity. We essentially put the rules in place, and client's usage determines the amount of shaping (if any) is applied.

I have changed to Afrihost as well, not really impressed so far with international link. I am on a 4mb line.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1511 kbps (188.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 485 kbps (60.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 215 ms
9/30/2013 9:41:56 PM

So I thought maybe my exchange is congested or something, so connected back to mweb (my last day)
And these are the results

Last Result:
Download Speed: 4777 kbps (597.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 501 kbps (62.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 199 ms
9/30/2013 9:46:09 PM

Pretty ok, no problem. I repeated the above a couple of times and it was pretty much the same.

Is anyone else having issues with Afrihost, I hope I didnt make a mistake :)
