Goodbye voice - Hello data

How did you make the leap from "voice traffic is almost flat" to "Goodbye voice"?

I wonder how we in ZA stack up judging by the configuration of our contracts (I'm with vodac). My contract config (and other people I know) slants from SMS -> Voice -> Data. This design is so outdated because most people don't communicate with SMS (TEXT) anymore. And as the article shows, even Voice is getting outdated. It seems we're deliberately held back in ZA. Is it for profit..

Yes

Yep, if it is "dead" then why don't the mobile operators give us FREE voice ??
If only that was the case but does this sound "dead" to you?
Looking at the five-year period, cumulative voice traffic growth was 31%

They kind of already give it away for free. Telkom with 3000 onnet minutes and MTN with 10000 minutes (on some contracts/specials).

Edit: not sure about other networks

That graph looks dodgy :wtf:

There is no way it could be smooth.

The only mobile company, that has taken the rise of Data and made this the centre of their product is Telkom, Telkom Free Me is centered around Data.

Its not dead, Voice is just on the decline that's all. Its like Man United, its not dead yet, just on the decline, but shirt and merchandise sales are still on the up.:p
