Google announces sweeping changes to Google Maps

Would rather they add options like, avoiding turning right / crossing two directions of traffic.

Option to make route sticky, meaning once you saved a route, even if you accidentally go off course, it will navigate you back to your saved route instead of creating a new route entirely.

Previously had option to select between shortest route or fastest route, I don't see it anymore. Liked it for same reason as point 2, if I want to stay on highways instead of being routed through a city center because technically it saves 3mins.

You're asking for useful features.. be real, AI slop and flashy visuals are all that matters these days.

Whenever there is a change I assume it will work worse.

I use Maps for the drive into work and back home only to see how long it will take. I already know how long it should take to get home at certain markers. If it is significantly longer than it should be I know to detour. Maps insists on taking me on every other route except the one I already know is the quickest.

If you don't know the area, relying on Maps, good luck.

I'm in roughly the same boat really in terms of using Maps.

I have found that its ETA calculation has gotten significantly more variable over the last year or so though. But at least in my part of the world I kind of put that down to it not knowing how to handle extensive roadworks along pretty much the entire journey, and how SA drivers don't understand even the most common road laws anymore.

There's still shortest, fastest and even greenest route

Its greenest route option I generally find to be horribly wrong, so would love to know what it bases it on.

I have 3 options to get home, and as far as its concerned, the greenest route is in reality the most fuel hungry of the routes.

Yeah greenest is supposed to be the one with fewer hills, fewer stops and easier traffic to use less petrol... It is hardly ever correct

Since you know the city (maybe)

I have the option of using the N2/N3 to get home, or N2/M19.... it always classifies the M19 as the "greenest" route, even though its basically the steepest hill with the shyttest traffic on that hill.

Yeah it did that for us in October, I told my wife to ignore it, she didn't... We were in the Triber

After the first time I used petal maps, the move away from google was easy.

Until I get speed limits and my speed on the screen i will give it a miss.
You do get the speed on the screen, you just have to ensure that it's enabled in the settings. However, it only displays the speed while navigating a route, not while maps are just open. Speed limits currently only in certain countries, hopefully South Africa will also be added in the future.

You guys do know you can turn off the annoying setting "Prefer fuel-efficient routes" and then it magically reverts back to the better routing options right?

Is that guy bleeding? I wonder what’s the story behind that. Seems like he was being chased, got away, and now looking around the corner to see if the danger is gone
I was thinking the same. I even studied that pic before looking at the stats.
