Google buys online word processor

me likes.

M$ for sure has a stranglehold on traditional desktop software, but the web is nice and open - pun intended :) - and not shackled to an OS.

Good for Google.
 
What's the chance of this being opensource rather than paid-for software?

I know most, if not all Google applications are free but I'm sure they're going to start charging from something.

They might - but their business model appears to be driven on advertising and subscriber revenue. In other words, give the end-user something for nothing, and the advertisers and sellers will flock to the large group of users.
