Anyone here tried out Google Cardboard before? Know where to get a set in the Hatfield area?
Can't seem to find one locally, pretty intrigued though.

I love it, pretty ingenious concept that the team at Google came up with. I imported mine a while back though.

There was a thread or two about it.A lot of us bought locally, but quality varies. It's fun for a few days, then we all got bored.

You could buy a basic set for less than R150 . Well worth a sqizz I feel if you have a little cash lying around

I brought mine for R30...that was in China....you just need to download the layouts on the web, get two magnets and two lenses to make it yourself

So is this basically the same thing but named something else? Does it work the same?

Also what is the difference between the different size lenses? Do you get a better experience with the bigger lenses?

A lot of companies have different names for them, they use the same template from Google.
https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-lens-dimensions-for-Google-Cardboard

"The lens is the key in a cardboard. While V1 used a 25mm diameter lens, with V2 its 34/37mm diameter lens with 45mm focal length.

Versions of Cardboard for larger phones with 34/37mm lenses most often use 50mm FL instead of 45mm FL, because otherwise it wouldn't be possible to see the whole screen.

While I havnt noticed a significant increase in the FOV with the 34/37mm lens I do feel its easier on the eyes than 25mm when used with a large screen. If the screen is too small, using large diameter lens wont help." from the link

You also need to make sure that it is the right size for your phone

You really want the Gear VR for this. Cardboard is hardly more than a tech demo. There are some interesting applications but basically nothing that can hold your attention very long. Gear VR has Netflix, Oculus Cinema, some decent games, and the ability to run SideloadVR and Stream Theater.
