Google Chromecast feedback thread

Sorry to bring back an old thread but just have a few questions hoping someone with a Chromecast can answer before I purchase 2 of them.

I already have a Roku 3 and it will remain my primary device for Netflix, Plex, Hulu ect. I am only looking for something that will allow me to stream online sports from various websites and the like of NTV ect. I know for a fact Roku doesn't support this and doubt they ever will. Also have done the route by connecting HPMS to TV with XBMC and using keyboard and mouse to control but not a fan unfortunately.

My plan was to buy an Apple TV and then use Airplay to stream the streams from mac to Apple TV connected to TV. I know it will be an overkill but seemed the best option at the time until I remembered about Chromecast.

Chromecast will make alot more financial sense. Could someone please test a live stream streamed from a mac or pc to the Chromecast and let me know how it works?

Assuming that your pc is not in the same room as the tv then surely you would have no way of changing NTV channels remotely? I would think an Android box with XBMC and a remote would be better suited and can of course run Plex, Netflix and Hulu?

I did think of that but then I looked at the pricing of Android boxes and to get a decent one is the same cost as an Apple TV which for me would be more useful. As I mentioned I have a Roku 3 for Plex, Netflix, Hulu ect and I don't see myself changing that for anything.

The streams will really only be for sports so I won't mind getting my MBA to find the game I want to watch and stream it to the Chromecast or even using the iPad.

Basically just looking for a device that I can watch live streams on my TV - not in the small box format as you get on browsers. If the Chromecast works well then will order two but if not then will just spend the cash and get an Apple TV as I know the Airplay feature works well.

NTV not a built in app, can it be added? Else better to buy the android stick from the local guys that will sell NTV or an MK808B

no it won't have a built in App but easy enough to browse the NTV site on Tablet, Phone or laptop and then send the path the the Chromecast to start playback on TV.

So anyone have any update on how well the Chromecast works at sending content from Chrome browser to TV? I am wanting to purchase the Apple TV or Chromecast today but as mentioned want to know if the Chromecast will work the same as the Apple TV Airplay feature (as the Airplay feature is the only thing I'd use the Apple TV for).

Does the Chromecast only need the link to be sent by a device eg cellphone and the rest of the processing and connection is done on the chromecast or is the cellphone needing to stay connected and doing all the work which will lead to very quick battery drain?

The device is only needed to send the link to the chromecast and once the chromecast has it you can turn your device off, use it for something else ect without disrupting anything.

How can one complain when both the tab cast and experimental desktop both worked flawlessly the first time! All I wanted was to both view videos off internet and to view videos, pictures, and listen to music from files stored on my PC, i.e., outside browser web cast. HBO Go was perfect, as was YouTube and all websites I visited were displayed. then I invoked the experimental DESKTOP and the entire desktop was cast giving me a mirror of my laptop screen. That had about a second delay, but no problemo. Now I can run a slideshow of pics in a folder while playing a Bob Marley album in the background. What a simple device to use and for less than peanuts. Looking forward to its future.

ok got my hands on this little device. thanks to takealot at R399.

Looking at the apps, which seems to be ever expanding, it seems that casual gaming on this ting but be interesting
