Google closes its Reader news feed service

RIP Reader.

Goddamn you Google

Still accessing reader 02/07/2013 2am. How much longer? US PST?

Just accessed it. I wonder when they will close it finally.

Still going ... this one really pissed me off. I didn't use any of the fancy features and I still can't find a replacement <sigh>

Everyone is recommending Feedly, yet when I ran comparisons between Google Reader and Feedly there was a difference of up to 15% in the records awaiting retrieval, spread over the 40-odd feeds that I subscribe to.

Yea, it's still happily up and running.

I have however moved over to Newsblur which works just fine for me now.

Feed Wrangler?

I decided to host my own tiny tiny rss reader, after testing feedly and one of the other alternatives, I finally decided that Tiny Tiny RSS reader on my VPS made the most sense. Not only does it need to trawl less feeds, I can also control how regularly it looks for updates, and it is updated much faster than reader or feedly did. So in essence no complaints, and now that it is hosted on a local VPS, it is even faster than Google Reader used to be.

I use Feedly with FullTextRss so that i can get full articles on the feeds which i can read in one app on phone or chrome etc.

ps. I really dunno why companies don't push full content on rss, can't be ads as some have ads within their full rss. -shrug- sadly some feeds i noticed are slow as a result of my translations to full content

Yip, mine is dead now too. Switched to feedly instead as gReader on my Android supports feedly as well. As far as my cellphone is concerned, it's as if Google never changed anything :)

I moved to The Old Reader, I tried Feedly but I didn't like the interface. gReader recently added support for The Old Reader, so I'll use that until such time as Press hopefully does the same as well.
