Google exploring personal e-mail domains

I was reading the comments at slashot/digg on this - and it seems that people recon that only small bussinesses would be interested in this as they would want to keep their emails on their servers - unless Google was to offer it in a similar way to the Google Mini

How about someone create a webmail program (ie open source) which has a similar style to Gmail :D
