Google has blamed server maintenance for a Gmail outage which left millions of users without the free Web-based email service for more than an hour and a half on Tuesday.

The story goes that they made some changes that increase load on the whole gmail infrastructure.
They didn't realise this.
They took a few nodes off-line for maintenance. Usually this wouldn't affect things.
But because of the increased load due to the changes done previously, *BOOM*
