Goodbye Google Hangouts

Google has shut down Hangouts, replacing the text, video, and voice chat app with Google Chat — an instant messaging app aimed at businesses.

Attempting to access Hangouts will redirect users to the Google Chat web app, but the tech giant said users can download their Hangouts data via Takeout until 1 January 2023.

This is not quite the same though, Hangouts may be culled, but they amalgamated services. Now Hangouts (with Spaces) and Meet are an all-in-one service (Chat). I have long stopped using Hangouts when Chat was incorporated into Gmail. My data have long since been moved to Chat.

Though Chat doesn’t have a browser extension or app like Hangouts had, it is a native app and PWA.

For all means and purposes, this is way better than Hangouts.

For a software company, Google does tend to **** up a lot and appears to have no direction .
The bigger they are, the less direction they have. It becomes forward movement driven purely by momentum after a while.

Apple is larger and they have direction .

I may be missing something - but you've got 70% of the worlds phones running on your platform - is it that tough to have embedded communication between phones ?

And before this it was Google Talk, then it became Hangouts...then Wave briefly ****ed around in the middle and then somewhere they had that idiotic idea of splitting it into two apps one was Duo and the other I don't even remember and then just left the old thing in tact and then came Google Meets...and still Hangouts lived...but there was also Chat.

I mean how to confuse the issue and now go about rewinding/mutating flip flopping it.

Are you drunk again?

There are 4 iPad models and 5 iPhone models.
Que? Apple today sells two iPhone 14 Pro models, two iPhone 14 models, and an iPhone SE, and it still sells two models of iPhone 13 and one iPhone 12 model.

Old versions of the 14"/16" Macbook Pros came with a Touch bar.
New versions of the 14"/16" Macbook Pros do not come with a touch bar.

Ie, it's been removed.
