Google is building a keyboard for iPhones: report

Google declined to comment on the keyboard, but the report stated it will have: gesture-based typing; a Google search function; and buttons for picture and GIF searches.

Nice of Google to build in functionality that is already available in Telegram.
 
I did not know IOS lets users install a 3rd party keyboard like Android. Thought the one that the phone comes with is all u can use? Interesting.
 
The word building in the headline threw me off and I thought it was a physical keyboard. :o Article says developing.

They do, but a lot of them don't work well due to IOS limitations afaik.

It depends what you mean:
- Connecting external hardware keyboard? Not. Bluetooth keyboards will not work, as Apple Bluetooth stack is very crippled, suitable only for transfering music. WiFi has no input devices standarized, so there is no WiFi keyboards on sale.
- Connecting by LAN to the external intelligent device like PC to use PC keyboard (by example)? Yes. It has to be an application installed on PC and corresponding app on iPhone.
- Custom keyboard app replacing standard iOS keyboard? Yes. Since iOS 8 it is possible. It is what Google is trying to do, I think.
