Google Maps for Android gives helpful real-time info

Any idea of when Google will bring the best of both worlds to one app?

1. Realtime traffic from Waze.
2. Accuracy of navigation from Waze (google maps tends to show I am driving on the road next over or next to the highway or even jump around on the screen)
3. Battery efficiency of Google Maps - Waze seems to use more battery than Google Maps
4. Integrate the social aspect of Waze where you get points etc and see other drivers on the road.

Make most of functionality of G maps truly off-line. Otherwise I am not interested.

Situation: I am entering long tunnel in Europe. Google is losing connection. On exit it takes a minute for restoring connection. This minute costs me 20 minutes to get back on the right highway.

You can cache a larger area now. I have almost the whole Western Cape cached...

1. Already doing so.
2. Never really had that problem. Are you perhaps using one of those Alcatel phones? :p
3. Agreed.
4. It's a navigation app, not a circlejerk. I can see other drivers on the road, just by looking out the window.

Just make maps available offline while on WiFi. Works like a charm.

It doesn't do this already?

I think your phone is broken

Oh please gawd no!

You must remember to cache in the WiFi area in the right time under condition that you don't travel far (caching area is very small - it cover maybe 1/4 of Gauteng, BTW). Secondly, navigation is very sensitible to the lost of connectivity in any case (as per example of leaving the tunnel).
