Google merges Gmail with chat

For those who dont see the new Chat - or other new additions to gmail - I read a hint on digg today - go to Settings, General, and change Gmail display language to English (US).

It's pretty cool, logging GoogleTalk converstaions.

Now we need Google to enable sorting of email, by size, sender, etc.

I like the direction this is going :D

Anyone been able to use the web gmail client to chat yet?

EDIT - AHHH - much better now.

I see the "chats" in the left column, but apart from that, don't see anything new. (yet)

I wish they hurry up wit the whole inter-connect agreement thing between msn, icq googletalk etc then its worthwhile. Rightnow i use msn since most people use it(US) and so this addtion though nice is kinda wasted. BTW there are some cool progs you can get to store files in gmail.

Ok - I got it now, it's pretty cool but takes up some space ... there is also this thing which appears when you hover over contacts, can be a bit anoying - but it would be nice if their was a users online status next to their name ... not in the little popup :)

I always leave my Gmail window open... Think it's necessarry to sign out and back in before this appears?

I have tried this a couple of times, but its frustrating :S
hehehe

Cheers

Make sure you have en-US language in your settings.
It also does not yet work over https so make sure you access gmail over http and not https.

btw now the chat thingy is FULLY intergrated into gmail which is awesome, if only i knew people who use it. Anyways yay google.

Why do you need this when you have search? I normally remember a word or phrase and sender of the email that I'm looking for, type it in, and you find your mail.
