Google Nexus 4

Maverick Jester are you enjoying your phone?

Pooky, you were all excited about photospehere, have you tried it with 4.3? They seem much better from a stitching point of view.

Oh that's cool I wasn't aware they made improvements. I will definitely try it out.

Hey guys could someone confirm if push notfications on wifi and 3g are delayed. It seems like when the screen is off notifications only appear 5-20 mins later, sometimes everything just rushes in when the screen turns on. I've read on xda this is a known problem however would just like to confirm it. If this not the case would maybe like to return it. Does anyone know if esquire handles the warranty or google? Thx

I've never had the issue...

Running 4.3?

Well running 4.3 , 4.2 honestly anything I can think of cos it driving me nuts. Apparently someone at google messed up with the update and put out an older commit then intended of aosp. But yeah i've even tried the latest jss aosp build and still have this problem. Think its faulty hardware.

I'm still perplexed as to why anyone would feel the need to load a custom ROM on a Nexus.

Personal opinion, I think that custom ROMs do not offer any real benefit. This is a typical case of more functions != more benefit.

Hi Guys

So its time for a new phone for me, and I'm not wanting to get tied down to a contract for various reasons. So given the affordability of the nexus 4, I think I'm gonna go for it. My girlfriend is in the states at the moment, so I can it sent to her, and then she can send it on to me.

Any advice with regards to purchasing the device? Anything I need to look out for? I will probably purchase through the google play store, as I believe it's the cheapest.

Thanks
Nick

She will most probably have to purchase it from the Play store as they check the credit card etc and cancel it if its not from US.

Ok thanks for that, I could order it on amazon I guess. but its bout 30$ more.

Saw the same one but I do not want to spend that much on the phone. Just ordered a Galaxy Nexus, should be OK with that.

Anyone looking for a Nexus 4 + diy digitizer project PM me.

Isn't a Galaxy Nexus more expensive than replacing the digitizer?

Yes, I paid R3500 for the Galaxy Nexus. But I will have it by next week, the digitizer and fix will take much longer and working on the GB running Ace Plus I borrowed from a friend is a short term solution.

I'll just cut my losses and sell the Nexus 4 as is.

I am loving it... haven't been around much, just started a new job so still settling in...

Loving how smooth and beautiful this device is. It's a lot lighter than you would expect it to be. The only flaw is that the buyer I bought it from, sent me the wrong colour bumper. But I am enjoying the contrast, and the bumper is rather well made.

The screen, once calibrated, is simply amazing. Just settling on a theme for it now. Anyway- running ParanoidAndroid 3.69 with the franco kernel. Battery life has definitely improved over the past few days, but I think it is also related to a combination of a few apps that I had running, which I have since disabled (Gravity Screen Off, Touch2Wake, etc).

All in all, very happy with my purchase. Well worth the wait and the selling the Note 2 to get.

kingrob- the fact that it is a Nexus, with the largest level of customisability and developer support around, is exactly why I wanted a Nexus 4 :)

There is a guide around here, somewhere, that will instruct you on how to order a Nexus 4 directly from the Google Play Store. Will see if I can find it...

EDIT- Here it is:
