Google Nexus 4

Hi all.
As I've confessed before I'm something of a n00b here ... I want to buy a Nexus 4 from a guy on Gumtree, but he doesn't know if it has the Play Store warranty. He apparently (so he says, I'm a little wary) bought it from a 'local vendor'. So if it has the box and serial numbers and so on, does it have the warranty automatically? Or should I las it?
Thanks!

^Ask him where he got it. Only a few places will honor the warranty and send it back to US for you free of charge.

If the place just imported it and sold it with the Google warranty you'd have to ship it to the US yourself.

Kalahari sells it for R6999. Is that the going rate in RSA or is Kalahari just bat-**** crazy?

Appleberry have cases, but they're not so cool.

Anybody got any better ideas?

Import them from ebay? Generally when I need something like an InvisibleShield I turn to ebay. When I get my Nexus 4 I don't want a case for it, defeats the point of having such a good looking device. I want to get a bumper from the Play Store but I think that's all it needs, if that.

So if I get this or this from ebay, will I have to pay customs?

Honestly I don't really know. When I have ordered small things like that I have not once paid customs on it, but it depends how they mark the item, method they send it, etc. Even if you do pay customs, on something like that it will be minimal.

One more question for the thread ... can I use the travel charger that came with the phone here in SA? It says 100-240v, and ours is 230, so I'm guessing yes? I have an adaptor, but it just changes the shape of the prongs, don't think it does anything for voltage.

And the car charger I had for my Galaxy S1, can I use that too?

I read a lot on protection before getting my Nexus 4. You have to protect the really cool looking glass backing of the phone, as there are lots of reports of that cracking and then you have a really ugly looking phone.

Don't drop it and it wont crack.

Yeah right ... don't drop it, ever. I would like to see the odds on that! I don't like bumper cases either (bulk), but I got the Ringke Fusion case (transparent back) case for mine. So far it seems to work well.

So I went to Vodacom for a nice sim only contract. Wanted to get something like a topup 135 with 500meg data, they charge you R99 for the topup 135 and R149 for 500megs data, which is CRAZY !
So the guy told me I can change my sim to a 'data sim' and get 1Gig for R69 and then just load up some airtime when i need it. Pretty decent deal, with viber becoming more popular I'm only going to use data !
