Google Nexus 4

This 4.4 is so crap. There is such a disconnect between parts of the system. We get the cool gel via some methods and then still no transparent lock screen. Google sucks

Such as? Only reason I flashed back to 4.3 was because I missed my customized Quick Settings toggles.

The transparent lock screen? Huh? That's been there since 4.2. Or are you referring to the transparent notification bar? Sideload the Google Experience Launcher, and the transparency settings appear.

Go here. Install the APK. Problem solved.

The GEL doesn't give me transparent bars on the lockscreen, only on the home screen.

Is it such a problem though? Seems that it is a Nexus 5 exclusive for now, then.

It's a big problem. I bought a nexus phone because I want the proper updated android experience.... The whole reason to get one is not to have to upgrade my phone every time a new upgrade comes out.

No, the point is to be able to purchase a device that is well supported, has good to great specs for considerably less than what other OEM's offer and off-contract. Having every single feature of every single new version was not guaranteed. Remember, these are developer devices, after all...

That being said, if you want to flash this, you will get the fully transparent notification bar across the lockscreen as well...

Thanks, might just do that but if I'm going to go the flashing route I may as well just flash an entire ROM.

I just don't like that Google didn't include the full featured kit; it's not like the Nexus 4 can't handle it.

Agreed, Which is why I am waiting for a stable version of Paranoid Android before I move to 4.4.

I actually share your sentiment, because the S4 Pro is not so much slower than the Snapdragon 800 that Google couldn't have enabled the functionality in the Nexus 4, at the least. But I think this is related to the release of the Nexus 5- it decreases the the level of incentivisation for existing device owners (and probably new customers as well), if all of the features found on the Nexus 5 work exactly the same on the older, cheaper model.

It is very easy to enable the missing features in any event- the true strength of the Nexus line of devices.

Perhaps in a few months, this will change.

Are you using a ROM at the moment?

I moved away from my ROM, because when a new update came out the phone would automatically download it in the background over and over again and use all my airtime; don't want that to happen again.

I flashed the stock KRT16S ROM last weekend, and found it to be very smooth. The GEL was useful, and I did like the look and feel of KitKat.

But there are too many things built into Paranoid Android that I use very often- the Quick Settings toggles, the HALO, PIE buttons. So I'll wait until they have a stable version and load that.

I never had any issues with the ROM trying to automatically update Android, but I do have DroidWall installed, so I'm not sure how much that had an effect on things.

Quick question, mate of mine has cracked his screen - are there any local options for repairs?
