Google Nexus 4

A buddy of mine who's currently in the US tried to bag one, but he was unable to :( What would import taxes on these be, should you decide to bring one in?
 
I've been told I can get one next week from a friends friend who is coming from the States. Works out at R4,300 so I told him to get it.

Let's see if it transpires :o

R4300? The 16GB model works out to ~R3100. Are you paying uber taxes somewhere?

I'm in Senegal. He wants 250,000 CFA which works out at 487 USD.

I've just spoken to the guy and got a bit more info. It's my friends friend who does the orders form Senegal and the other friend in the US who sends them over by Fedex.

Apparently I'll have it by Thursday if I give the nod, which I just did :)

We-ell, if you think we will ever get it in SA for anywhere near R3100, then it's a rip off. But I actually got a bit of good fortune recently and am treating myself for Christmas. Maybe it's a grand too much, but it's still way below any other comparable phone so what they hey :)

Ah okay, fair enough. I thought the friend's friend was physically going to bring it to you, thus the confusion :)
 
Lots of friends coming to SA for Xmas so it was my intention to buy and have them bring it in for me. But given the current state of affairs, it looks like actually being able to get your hands on one by Xmas is going to be very difficult no matter where you live.

Very disappointed. Can't even pre order on the site. Just says "No stock" . That means that when the UK get their second batch in, you will need to somehow be the first to click BUY. Pretty unlikely given that the first batch sold out in 22 mins.
 
Does anyone have one of these yet?

I've organised mine as mentioned above and should get it in the coming week, but it'd be nice to have a forumites opinion on the phone rather than just reading reviews.

Some people that managed to order it's orders have been pushed back 3 weeks. It's gonna take a while to get a couple of them over to our shores IMHO.
 
I'm now wondering how this friends friend managed to get a hold of one in the US to send to me if they are so difficult to come by??? But it appears these guys do this for a living, sending iPhones and the like from the States to Senegal on order, hence the big wedge on top of the price. There is a surprisingly big market here for the latest phones and tech so I'm quite confident I'll see it soon.

They are available from eBay but at ~R4k prices.

Not planning on paying more than R3.2k for this phone which means I'll probably have to wait until next year :(

R4k?!?! I'd say that is cheap!!
 
Give it a couple of months and google will satisfy demand. Then prices will be more reasonable.
