Google Nexus 4

Had mine for a couple of days now and it's a damn fine phone.
Haven't really done a battery test but it seems to last a full day with the "I've go to try out and play with everything" test.
The gorilla glass back is not what I expected. The way everyone was talking, I assumed most of the back cover to be glass which it isn't, it's almost like a screen protector stuck on the back. (hope I'm making sense :) The glass does make the phone feel like it could slip out of your hand quite easily.
The really cool thing is that the system updated to latest android within an hour... no need to wait as you do with other smart phone makes.
(Updated from Galaxy S3)

I'm picking up two Nexus 4's tomorrow.... Giving one to my boet.... will play around with the other, decide if I like it or not. But first thing I'll do is root them. Nice easy bootloader available over at XDA called SuperBoot ... you keep root even after updating to 4.2 !

or you can use the Nexus Toolkit

You don't have to charge phones for x hours before using it these days.

Sigh at you people getting your Nexuses now :p Making me very jealous

I'll prob. have CM10.1 on mine before tomorrow morning, but will try and get as much use out of stock 4.2 as I can tonight. :)

I'll prob stay on Stock until i feel like a change of scenery. Work productivity = 0 today.

I'm going to have to cut my simcard later on :O

Initial Thoughts

Holy mother of god. This phone is absolutely amazing. The jump from 2.3.5 GB to Jelly Bean is like the difference between a 10c crackwhore and Mila Kunis. I am blown away. 1 caveat, it is not nearly as grippy as my old phone, it is light but not too light however the back of the phone has a very low friction when u rub your fingers against it. Just did a call test and the speaker is fine.

A few units have reported that some of the sensors are not fully functional so i tested the accell and gyro and gps and they seem fine. no back-light bleeding either so that's awesome.

Onto general performance. It is absolutely buttery smooth. Probably as smooth as iOS on the 4S (have not tried iOS on the 5 yet). Just 1 ****ty thing is Chrome is pretty bad at times. And its not just the nexus 4, i see reports of this all over the webs on the nexus 7 and the nexus 10. I will default to Dolphin browser until Google fix this up. All my apps paid and non-paid just downloaded onto my device. Only **** thing is I could not sync Facebook contacts so I paid R10 for hax sync and all is fine now. There are others but I paid for hax sync because it was highly recommended

I guess I'll do a full report after 1/2 days of battery usage.

There are 3rd party bumpers on sale on Amazon I plan to buy one because while I love this phone unfortunately it isnt the most rigid device. I dont feel like buying a TPU case because those things makes holding your device kinda bad IMO.

Some pics, sorry, bad quality ;(

Sum'bich! So jealous right now! :p
Enjoy man! :)

Well, it's late and I'm tired but I thought I'd give a quick early impressions.

I love it! It's crazy fast and feels great in hand. I've rooted and flashed custom recovery as well as restored all my apps via Titanium. Everything working great so far.

Tomorrow I'll stop at MTN and buy a microSIM. I'm already missing a few little things that a took for granted with Cyanogen so I don't expect this stock ROM to last the day tomorrow.

All in all I'm very pleased. But now it's bed time.

StNick, You can cut your SIM its very easy or rather go to MTN and request that your SIM get cut. I did that last night.

Print this on A4 http://amjath.com/downloads/micro_sim_template.pdf

or YouTube "Sim to microsim with scissors".

Friend is coming down to SA for xmas and said he saw Nexus 4 cases and 3rd party bumper cases at T-Mobile. So I guess between that and Cerebrus, my phone will be protected.

Thanks dude. I tried last night actually, but unfortunately, my SIM is of the larger variety which cannot be cut. I'm off to MTN first thing on my way into the office.

I'm getting my bumper on Thursday or Friday (another mate bringing it down).

That's right, comes with F-all. A USB cable and a charger. :( Cost-cutting measures I spose.

I have so many headsets these days... about 6 pairs of samsung ones, Nokia, HTC ... too many. Oh and iPad set...

Between the wife and myself, in the last 24 months we have been through:

Nokia N8
Samsung Galaxy Note X 2
Galaxy Tab 10.1
iPad 3
HTC desire

prior to that was Samsung Omnia (POS) they all have the same type of headsets.
