Google Nexus 5

You have to be within the Google Now app for it to listen to the hotword. But when in the app, it does very well.

Finally received my wireless QI charger (http://www.dinodirect.com/universal...-920-samsung-galaxy-s3-s4-more-p24768779.html). I ordered from DinoDirect and shipping was free (even if it took 2 months).

Works a charm! Picks up and charges the phone pretty much any orientation and through my cover. The only concern is that the phone does seem to get a little warm when charging like this (although it seems to be normal with the QI chargers - will check whether it stops charging once it gets to 100%).

One of my friends got a nexus 5 recently, and he has problems receiving calls while connected to LTE on vodacom, is there a work around? When he is on H+ he has no data connection at all, so that's not a solution.

A few here mentioned that they had issues, can't remember how they were resolved...

You mean Snapdragon 600. And it is no slouch, either (my Nexus 7 2013 absolutely flies with this chipset).

It goes back to what I mentioned some time ago- more than dual-core on Android is a massive waste. Motorola did it right with the Moto X.

That's an odd statement. Faster is always better and given that we're not yet at the singularity, there's plenty of room for improvement. Dual or quad or octo is far less important than the efficiency of the chip though. There are some awful so-called quad-core Android chips out there. I'm hoping the S5 will have Snapdragon 805 though as it looks very impressive.

How is the statement odd, though? Android as an OS is not yet optimised to take advantage of the additional cores in any usable area other than benchmarking. Even then, the dual-core Moto X ran a number of quad-core devices very closely.

Apple are the perfect example of how OS and chipset efficiency and optimisation can create an outstanding user experience. iOS devices have always had far greater battery life and their Android counterparts, to boot. Not to mention that the A7 chipset is a relative technological marvel.

This is what I admired about the Moto X- efficiency and usability over outright horsepower, using Android as the showcase that this can be achieved.

[Bug Watch] Nexus 5 Can Randomly Stop Receiving Calls And Text Messages For Some

When it comes right down to it, there’s a pretty short list of things everybody simply expects a cell phone to be able to do well: making and receiving calls and text messages. We must be able to trust that our phones aren’t failing at the most basic types of communication. Unfortunately, some people have found that the Nexus 5 can’t always be trusted to let them know when somebody is calling or texting them.

Symptoms
There aren’t a lot of variations in the complaints for this one. At seemingly random times, the Nexus 5 will simply cease to respond to incoming calls or text messages. The connectivity indicators in the status bar and quick settings panel will show bars and data will continue to flow normally. In fact, there are absolutely zero outward signs that anything has gone wrong.
To complicate things further, the problem rights itself as soon as the Nexus 5 is used to make a call or send a text. Once connectivity is restored, the overdue SMS messages and voicemails will come flooding in.
Since Wi-Fi and cellular data are typically unaffected (in most complaints), Google Voice users are often alerted to a voicemail without ever receiving a call. This is how many people first realized something was wrong.

Quick question guys - there are some guys selling the D820 version of the phone. Anyone here that uses it? Have you had any issues with it on Vodacom network?

Yup - me - no issues except you can't use LTE (which I don't care for anyway)
