Google Pack: a software package including pretty much everything but an operating system and productivity suite.

It will include the open-source Firefox Web browser, a version of Norton AntiVirus software from Symantec Corp., Adobe Systems Inc.’s Reader software, RealNetworks Inc.’s RealPlayer multimedia software, Trillian instant-messaging software from Cerulean Studios and Lavasoft AB’s Ad-Aware antispyware software. Google Pack will also include Google’s own desktop search software, Google Earth satellite imaging and maps software, Picasa photo-management software, Google Talk instant-messaging program, its Toolbar add-on for Web browsers and screen saver software

Jeez ... what a disapointment :(.

I think it would have sounded better if they just sticked to google software, all that other crap [norton???] probably makes that package like a chameleon on a smartie-box to be of any use. All the google software usually are tiny, now i assume combining those symantec+ad-aware+trillian nonsense it's huge and not free [or loaded with ads and other crap]. I would for example rather download firefox from the original site [and probably get a later version too].

Most of Microsoft’s products are better, and at least all of Microsoft’s products are from Microsoft!

...that's why M$ is still in business.

American Television available on Google

Can you give us any information about this?
Can one hook up one's computer to the television and see certain American programs? If so, what hardware is required?
Anxious to see programs other than DSTV.
Thanks.

Google pack isn't the TV side, that's still coming.

Here's the full skinny :-

As for Google Pack, yeah, it's great for people who have never heard of any of the stuff on offer - bung it on your Mom or Grannys PC for instance - but for the rest of us, it's just a bunch of stuff we already have or don't really want. I've got all the stuff except the google desktop, picassa and the screensaver baloney.

No big deal.

The video thing will be around R14 for a "rental", but given the fact that broadband in SA is, erm, a tad behind the times, I don't think it will be a huge success over there. When your already paying through the nose for a paltry 3gig of data, it's unlikely that you'll want to pay R14 for a re-run of a TV program that'll take you two days to download and chow 1gig of your precious cap.

They even mentioned it on the radio this morning but I just heard the name , no details - what a let down!!

Go to Google and Insert "Google American Television" and you will get details. A lot of it will be free (old stuff, I assume)!!
