Hi everyone.

So since the exchange rate is looking promising, I've been looking at a new device. I've always wanted a Google phone for the fast Android updates. My contract is up for upgrade in September (Vodacom) - but I'm looking at moving to Telkom in December when the contract is up. Currently using a S7.

Using the exchange rate as of today, $650 works out to about R7700. Adding in R200 or so for my Aramex delivery and about R1600 or so for customs (20% on average?) I'm working out to an amount of about R9500.

Has anyone else imported a Pixel 2? What did yours work out to? Any thoughts on the device?

Also wanna pull trigger on this, but:
* considering amazon uk as the plug and phone firmware frequencies may be closer to SA standards - don't know enuf, heard they don't match SA, that's why it hasn't been approved for distribution here.
* haven't confirmed the costs - thanks for the breakdown above.
* concerned about import delays and delivery - but sounds like I need not.

I haven't done much looking with regards to the first point either.

Also, I've only been looking on the USA eBay. Need to have a look at the UK costs.

I use Aramex's global shopper. Quite a nice service.

I'm just stuck in this Vodacom contract until December. Else I would I have bought it today

I paid just over 10k 2 months ago.

Great phone with monthly Firmware Updates.

My biggest gripe is the adaptive brightness, it's horse sheit. Google it to get more info. I have to use a 3rd party app to manage auto brightness. Am hoping it will get fixed with a future update.

If you import, make sure to import a screen protector as well as you won't find anything locally :)

Does anyone know how to buy from the Google store? It's giving me issues with the billing address. I have an Aramex global shopper new York address.

scottsshipping. he has a thread. way better than aramex

This is from the XDA forum.

Hello everyone,
Good News!!

According to senior Google developers, the first Android 9.0 Developer Preview will be landing on Pixel 2 XL mid-March, having a completely redesigned interface and most likely, will be using the same vendor from 8.1 thanks to Project Treble.:):highfive:

You may register/sign up on Android Beta for 1st Developer Preview of Android 9.0 (only if you're on stock Android 8.1) when it's live/active (stay tuned).

Active development of Android 9.0 can be found on this link.

I will update this thread as soon as I have any updates and keep you folks posted on the latest development and/or release of Android 9.0 for taimen.

Stay Tuned!

I'm also in the market for a new phone. Currently on the Nexus 6P.

Checking Zeek and Connected Devices, the prices look mad...I saw R19000 for Pixel 2 XL 64GB...like, what the fudge...

Have a look at the OnePlus 5T? The price is just right with the right features. Was also going to go for a pixel 2 but it was a bit much for my budget. Small trade-off on the camera though, but for R8.5k with customs vat and shipping I can't complain

How much are you willing to spend? Get in contact with Scott's Shipping for a quote on the Pixel. Way better than Zeek and Connected Devices.

Sounds interesting, will check them out.

To be honest, I swore to never spend R10K on a phone after the 6P...dont think i have a choice now, especially when you want to a good camera.

Unfortunately yes. I tried for less, but didn't manage it.
I considered going for the Pixel 2, but don't want to do that kind of cash.

You can also try amazon. Just Google Amazon global. Can get refurbished units, and the price they display includes estimated taxes

Anyone get the march update yet? Even with a Google phone, still have to wait an extra week for the monthly android update in SA :/
