Google Pixel 4 & 4 XL

How's the battery life? That seems to be the biggest issue people are having with it.
Much better than my Google Pixel XL (which also had a new OEM battery).
I use my phone harder than most with quite a few background services and everything is turned on. (GPS/BT/90hz/Always on screen etc).
I'm making it through the day without issue, have about 20% left when I put it on charge. AccuBattery is detecting that I get 8 hours of screen on time.
Obviously then you have a new phone you using it a lot more so would imagine the state of change at the end of the day, so it will improve over time.

Its not iPhone 10 Max though, they making nearly 2 days on a battery.

Good to hear. I'm about to move to a 3a soon.

I just got my Pixel 4 via Black Friday $200 off. It's actually a lovely phone and a big upgrade on my old Pixel 1.

Downsides: No motion sense in SA. FNB biometric doesn't work with face sense.
Is the FNB biometric disabled due to the issue that one can unlock the phone with closed eyes? Understandable, but a bummer. I use the FNB a lot.

I also bought a 4XL during Black Friday which a mate is bringing down end of December.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with eyes open or closed, its still a biometric reading none the less.
I just don't think FNB has implemented support.

Do any other android phones work with fnb using face biometrics?

Received my pixel 4 xl.

Rooted it to get motion sense enabled.

I also see there is a Xposed module that converts face unlock to fingerprint using the android API. This should get FNB biometric working.

Will give it a bash later.

Meh, not sure if i wanna root. Doesnt that stop FNB from working in the first place?

No, you can hide root from banking apps.

Faceunlock working now with FNB.

If you like to tinker, give fingerface a go. Requires some tinkering.

Not sure why all reviewers say the battery is that bad on the pixel 4 XL. I get on avg 5-7 hours SOT. Compared to let's say my 7T, maybe 30min to an hour less. 90hz and the high res screen, it's not bad at all, considering it has a smaller battery compared to the 7t/pro for example.

This phone is an absolute beauty, in my opinion.

Did you also get call screening to work?

Yep

Quite sad to jump through all the hoops to get everything working. But once all is setup, it's smooth sailing.
I'm tempted to root mine, my main issue with it was my banking app wouldn't work. But seems it's possible now.

I guide would be great, hint hehe

Faceunlock requires the EdXposed module which currently trips safety net. So certain apps like Google pay won't work. Netflix will say it's incompatible with your device etc. However, for normal apps one can just use the aurora store. Which caches all links from play Store.

The Taichi module also works and doesn't trip safety net, but it's closed source and there is just no way I'd install that.

Eventually all apps will use the new biometric API so not sure it's worth for most as it requires some tinkering to get working.

If you're just after sollie and screen calling, there is no risk in rooting and it won't trip safety net. It requires one magisk module and 2 files need to be edited. Also the phone app needs to be downgraded to a slightly older version for screen calling to work, until someone has found a new workaround.

Thanks dude

So for screen calling, you need to get a slightly older version of Andriod, or call screening?

Thank you. Definately worth investigating. Worth it for call scanning and Soli.

For a screen calling to work - you only need to be rooted (magisk installed), install an older version of the phone app and edit one file. That's it.

Solie requires an extra module within magisk. I can post a guide, but will only be able to do so tomorrow.

Practically nothing new in the feature pack due to SA restrictions. Looks like I will have to root in the end.
Bleh.

I've unrooted again. Was a pain to get monthly OTAs installed. It works, but it's a process.

Sollie is overrated anyways. It was useless to me. Never used it for anything.

My only gripe right now is having to punch in my password into all banking apps. None of the SA banking apps have added support yet for the new Biometric API, so googles face unlock doesn't work.
