Definitely not a volume phone.
Google expects to sell only 800,000 Pixel 5 units this year

Yesterday Google introduced two new phones, Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, both falling short of the term “true flagship” with the lack of top-notch chipset, telephoto camera and an UD fingerprint scanner.

Apparently, the Mountain View company doesn't expect the phones to be particularly hot with customers as indicated by the conservative orders placed with suppliers - 800,000 Pixel 5 units by the end of the year, as reported by Nikkei Asia.

The total production for the 2020 Google lineup across its three members - the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 4a - will be 3 million units. This is less than half than the 7.2 million phones Google sold last year, but understandable given that the company only moved 1.5 million units in the first six months of this COVID-19-distrupted year.

Well most of Europe also not getting Pixel's directly. They all shitholes too? Just keep it to phones, no need to make it political.

Who even uses cases for cellphones? The newer glass and aluminium are scratch resistant and if you don't drop it like a klutz, you're fine. A case makes your phone look too plasticy.

Less than 10 countries in the world get the Pixel. Google isn't interested in mass producing or selling phones. It's more of a guideline for the software user experience that other manufacturers should follow.

/Looks down at third smartphone that doesn't have a case that's still got a perfect screen
That also includes me not getting a glass sandwich phone, always had the back be plastic or metal, and I think I've only dropped it once on tiles from shoulder height.
I actually like that the Pixel 5 went full metal, most manufacturers stopped doing so because of the weight probably, just dumb that plastic is seen as cheap as it's plenty strong enough and lighter than metal.

Have you seen the latest now... build issues again, now on the Pixel 5, the glass and plastic body is separating...

So more importantly who is getting one? And where you gonna purchase it from?

Also poor camera performance from the 4 year old IMX363 sensor compared to new flagships. The Pixel is not the camera champ anymore.

That's a lot to sacrifice for $700. For the same price you can get the OnePlus 8T with a much faster processor, more RAM, better screen, better camera and almost Pixel like software.

I have the Oneplus 7T and not happy with the camera at all. Looking at the 8T samples out there, the image processing is still more or less the same as the 7T. I had a pixel 3 back in the day and was very happy with the images. It literally was a point and shoot camera and you will be pretty much happy with the outcome. I miss that feature alot. Not really interested in CPU speeds, ram, etc etc... i dont game on the phone either. I will say that i am going to miss the tweaks Oxygen OS has vs the Pixel vanilla Android OS. Oh and the dedicated button for profiles.

Lol the OnePlus has a better camera than the Pixel. Pull the other leg. You know that using the same sensor is intentional. All the improvements that you are seeing in smartphone cameras are due to computational photography. Its more about decent processing vs further improving the sensors, and you can further fine-tune the processing if you not changing the sensor each year.

On the plus side, the older Pixels also normally get these camera software upgrades rolled down to them.

The Oneplus 8T has an old sensor and without any of the computational photography advancements of the Pixel line.
